NFL Power Rankings

Week 6

By Niko BanksPublished 8 months ago 4 min read

10. Browns

The Browns were a top 5 team in week four but have since disappeared from the Power Rankings. Well, they are back, baby. The Browns just took out the number one team in the NFL with their backup backup QB. The Brown's defense has looked good all year, but this was truly a statement game. It's true that CMC and Debo went down, and Trent was also injured. But CMC, for instance, played most of the game, plus the Browns were missing a lineman, a star running back who didn't play three quarters, and their franchise QB. If this is what the Browns can do at rest, imagine what will happen when they activate.

9. Cowboys

The Cowboys have reentered the Power Rankings. I expected the Cowboys to beat the Chargers, but it's still a big win. The Cowboys proved there was merit to what Mike McCarthy was saying. Dak and the Cowboys lit up the scoreboard for years with Moore, but it didn't translate to winning. Moore and Mike stood across from each other in a coaching battle. Many people would say Kellen Moore is the better coach and Herbert is the better Qb, but it was the Cowboys' offense that outdueled the Chargers and Mikes's choices that kept them ahead by just enough to win, even if some of those choices were unpopular. Of Course, the Dallas defense helped to shut down the Chargers and seal off that game as well. The Cowboys have bounced back from their embarrassing 49ers loss and earned their way back into the top ten.

8. The Bills

The Bills barely escaped the Giants, but I still have them ahead of the Cowboys because if you look at each team's two losses, the Cowboy's losses were the worst. Plus, the Bills may play badly at times, but I trust them to be able to dig themselves out of a hole more than I trust the Cowboys to right now. The Bills showed they could dig themselves out of a hole against the Giants. The Bills didn't play well, but as a top-ten team, they pulled out a win even in a bad outing. The Bills have a long way to go to live up to their potential, but they are in the top ten even as underachievers.

7. Ravens

Ravens are a solid but unexciting 4-2 team. Their losses have been to surprising teams, and they have still dealt with difficult injuries. It feels like they still don't have a stacked wide receiver core, and the Ravens offense hasn't hit its full stride yet. However, the Ravens are still a dangerous team on offense and defense. They could take off on any team on any given Sunday.

6. Jaguars

The Jaguars are the number one 4-2 team because they are at the top of their division, and it seems like as long as the defense is humming, then they can beat anyone.

5. Eagles

The Eagles have backslid from number two to number five as the worst 5-1 team. This is because the Eagles have struggled week in and week out, and all that culminated in the first loss to the Jets in franchise history. The Eagles may have a coaching problem because the Eagles have all the pieces to be great, and it seems like the Eagles' errors are the true enemy of the Eagles.

4.49ers

The 49ers have one of the best rosters in the NFL, but they took a bad loss this week. One of the huge blows to the 49ers was that when everything wasn't easy and they needed to make a play, the 49ers struggled more than many expected they would. However, the 49ers are above the Eagles because the 49ers still could have won their game.

3. The Chiefs

The Chiefs have moved back and forth on the Power Rankings since week three. They still have yet to look dominant on offense, but it has not stopped them from winning. The Chiefs felt like they were in a different league than the Broncos. As a team, they dominated the Broncos. The Chiefs are still contenders, and the farther away we get from week one, the better that single loss to the Lions looks.

2. Dolphins

The Dolphins had a rough start to their last game, but they finished strong and beat the Panthers handily. The Dolphins are top two in the league because they have the most dangerous offense in the NFL. Even if they aren't playing well, if the Dolphins turn it on, there is no stopping their tidal wave.

1. Lions

Who else could it be? The Lions have remained on the Power Rankings since week one and have been sitting at the number three spot behind the undefeated teams for the last two weeks. The Lion's only loss was a controversial close game, and their wins look really impressive. The Lions can light teams up on offense, but for once, they can actually shut people down on defense. Lions fans have a lot to be excited about this year. Seeing the Lions in the Super Bowl looks way more realistic than in past years. But every champion of the power rankings has been humbled within a week or two. Will the Lions be able to break the trend and remain on top?
