Strangely, NFL kickers have been in the limelight since the beginning of the 2021 NFL season. NFL kickers scored 10 winning field goals in September, either at the end of regulation (or in overtime). All of them can be viewed here. This list also includes Justin Tucker's league record 66-yard touchdown to beat the Detroit Lions in Week 3. It is one of the most memorable moments this season.

Week 5 started badly for kickers, as Matt Gay, Rams kicker, missed an extra point during the Rams' touchdown against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football. This set the scene for one of the most difficult days for kickers in league history. Sunday's action began with a poor start. Jets kicker Matt Ammendola failed to make an extra point on the Jets' first touchdown.

Kickers were penalized 12 more points in Week 5, which is an NFL record. The kickers also missed 12 field goals that day. According to ESPN it was the first week with at least 10 field goals missed and at least 10 extra points missed since 2015, when the point after touchdown was moved from the 2-yard line to the 15 yard-line. According to the NFL, the 12 missed PATs tied a record set in 2016.

The Green Bay Packers game against the Cincinnati Bengals was the perfect example of Sunday's rollercoaster for kickers. Green Bay kicker Mason Crosby was able to make 27 consecutive field goals before Sunday's game. However, he missed three crucial field goals and an additional point on Sunday before finally scoring the winning goal.

Crosby hit a 36-yarder left with the Packers and Bengals tied at 22, with 2:22 left. The Bengals drove into field goal range to attempt their go-ahead field goals, but Evan McPherson missed the mark from 57 yards.

Crosby was once again the hero after a quick pass from Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams. He missed the goal from 51 yards to force overtime.

Crosby was able to score another winning field goal when the Packers intercepted Joe Burrow in overtime. He also missed that one. McPherson of Cincinnati had another chance to win the game-winner. He also missed that one.

Crosby would make a 49 yard field goal to give Packers victory.

Because they had to kick, the Chargers also experienced kicking difficulties. In recent years, kicker has been a problem for the franchise. This was again evident when Tristan Vizcaino failed to score a pair of points. The other would have tied it at 42 . Austin Ekeler had taken a screen pass to the house just three minutes before the final whistle. Vizcaino now has four more points, but the Chargers still win the game over the Cleveland Browns.

Three missed extra points were part of the tight Patriots win over the Texans. Kai Fairbairn of Houston missed the Patriots' first score. Patriots kicker Nick Folk countered by missing his PAT on the Patriots’ first touchdown. Fairbairn was unable to score an additional point when the Texans responded with another touchdown. Unbelievable.

Matthew Wright, Jaguars kicker, missed the extra point after Jacksonville's first touchdown. After Alvin Kamara's touchdown against Washington, Cody Parkey from the New Orleans Saints failed to score an additional point.

Despite all the pain in Week 5 for kickers, the highlight of Week 5 was the victory of the Vikings over the Lions at the buzzer. It was Greg Joseph's 54-yard field goal. His teammates carried him off the field.

OK, that was a highlight for Dan Campell. All the Kickers seem to be super clutch against Lions, even when they're really deep.

What's the good news for the NFL's kick community after Sunday? There is still plenty to improve going into Week 6.
