Avalanche Game 54 Recap: Dominant in DC
As John Wick would say, "I'm thinking we're back!" The Colorado Avalanche entered the fifth and penultimate game of this road trip on a bad skid. 0-3-1 in our last four games, and coming off a shutout loss in Sunrise, Florida. For this go-around, it's a trip to Our Nation's Capital to face off against the Washington Capitals, one of two teams who were on the receiving end of a Nathan MacKinnon four-goal performance this season.
Somers Runs John Jay out of Gym with 69-51 Victory
After falling 67-61 to Yorktown on Wednesday January 17, another cross town rival was in on Friday night, and the Tuskers were definitely in the thick of it versus John Jay. A 41-37 third quarter game in favor of Somers, the battle gave way to a long run, and the rest of the game was easily joined.
A Rollercoaster Season: Analyzing the Heartbreak of the 49ers' Super Bowl Loss
The culmination of a long and arduous NFL season left fans of the San Francisco 49ers with mixed emotions. While the journey had its fair share of highs, the ultimate low struck in the Super Bowl, leaving a lingering feeling of defeat. In this comprehensive review, we'll delve into the offensive struggles, defensive lapses, and special teams mishaps that contributed to the heart-wrenching loss.
Is Kyle Shanahan a Failure?
In what was, undoubtedly, the best Super Bowl ever played, the San Francisco 49ers lost, 25-22, in the final seconds of overtime to the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs. With that, the Niners came up brutally short of that elusive sixth Super Bowl championship yet again, and it has officially been 29 years since their last win at Super Bowl XXIX. There hasn't really been much to blame, but one person is definitely on the receiving end of the scrutiny: Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan.
The Labor of Love
I have always second-guessed those who say that love is easy. Or rather that love should be easy with the right person. Any person that I hear say that or something similar always has this glassy look in their eyes like they are on some drug that I haven’t managed to try yet. I feel cynical and then have an immediate fear of missing out that I can never quite shake when I meet those types of people. The placidness in their expressions never ceases to amaze me but has always left me curious. They say comparison is the thief of joy but in contrast to the madness behind my eyes, the boredom is likely comforting to them.
Super Bowl LVIII Recap: The Tribal Chiefs
WOW! What a game!! So the results of this year's Conference Championships left a bad taste in the mouths of a lot of fans. They wanted the Baltimore Ravens and the Detroit Lions, because many figured that this was Baltimore's best chance, and they wanted that heartwarming story of the Lions reaching the Super Bowl for the first time ever. Instead, we got the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, which caused a lot of grumbling, but regardless, we were in for an interesting contest. For the Chiefs, they were looking to continue ruling as the NFL's current empire, while the Niners were looking for payback and that elusive sixth ring.

Straddling the Fence
I had no idea when I wrote “If You are on the Fence about Leaving Your Sport: Read This” that it would be my most popular piece on Vocal, nor that it would actually resonate with so many people. At the time, I believed myself to be more of a creative writer so to have just a simple story about my personal experience attempting to pursue the sport I love, only to quit at the collegiate level, gain the most traction, I was shocked. I was even more shocked when I received a direct message on Instagram from someone I did not know and had never met before, a whole 6 years after my original story was published, asking me for advice because they were facing the exact same scenario in their life and somehow stumbled upon my piece and felt compelled enough to find and reach out to me for advice.
Avalanche Game 53 Recap: Enough is Enough
As the man who is about to main event WrestleMania 40 would say, "We have a lot to talk about." This...this isn't good. So the Colorado Avalanche entered this game having lost three straight, and while the OT loss to the New York Rangers wasn't too bad, the losses to the New Jersey Devils and the Carolina Hurricanes were terrible. For the fourth game of this six game road swing, it's a trip to Sunrise to face the Florida Panthers. The last time we faced Florida, it was embarrassing. An 8-2 drubbing on our ice. The Avs needed to win out to salvage a winning road trip, and I figured that this would be the game where things get back on track.
John Jay Falls to the Strong Inside and Out Game of Pearl River
On Monday January 22, John Jay hosted Pearl River, and it took awhile for the game to get off the ground. No baskets through almost two full minutes, the challenge eventually revealed itself at 6:10. Kelsey Miedreich got the ball in the low post, backed down Jordan Kauftheil, and on the foul, she sank both free throws. But her inside dominance was only the half it on a very tough day.
John Jay Completes Comeback Victory Over Byram Hills
On Thursday January 18, John Jay faced Byram Hills at John Jay High School and fell behind 31-18 on Joe Barbuto's pin off Alex Federice at 160 pounds. So the Wolves didn’t have much margin for error… Or they had the Byram Hills Bobcats exactly where they wanted them.
