From Undesirable to Undeniable

All Elite Wrestling is the alternative that pro wrestling fans have been clamoring for, for years. There are certain things that just come with watching pro wrestling and for fans we’ve grown for better or worse use to certain type of formats in the colorful performance based genre. WWE has been running and setting the standard for years but there has been a rise in the east of NJPW(new japan pro wrestling) The fighting spirit and focus on in ring action has provided a light alternative to WWE. It wasn’t until the end of 2017 going into 2018 that the wrestling world would be body slammed by one match that would send a ripple affect across the industry and spark a much needed change. A veteran of the wrestling industry, lead singer of The rock band Fozzy Chris Jericho went over to NJPW to have a match with fellow Canadaian Kenny Omega. Kenny Omega and his contemporaries in NJPW were putting on some of the most critically acclaimed wrestling matches in the world, the issue was barely half a million people were watching. The match with Kenny Omega Vs Chris Jericho at wrestle kingdom 12 was set and bought over 100,000 new subscribers to new Japan world their streaming service and helped NJPW completely sell out the 50,000 seater in the Tokyo Dome.

I was one of the 100,000 new subscribers, seeing a legend in another company was truly a dream match. Apparently wrestling big fans weren’t the only one to think so, Tony khan of the khan family (Owner of TruMedia NetworksCo-owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Fulham F.C.)

Being a businessman and mark(term for a hardcore wrestling fan) He has been literally for years booking his own wrestling company on his head. In only what I can describe as synchronicity 5 of the hottest free agents (The Elite) in wrestling contracts were all due to expire around the same time. The obvious move would be to leave NJPW and go to WWE for mainstream TV and more money. The elite in an unexpected unprecedented move stayed together and didn’t go to the WWE but instead decided to put on their own wrestling show in collaboration with NJPW and ROH(ring of honor)

All in was a love letter to pro wrestling and the event that caused Tony Kahn to turn a fantasy into a reality with the elite and Chris Jericho. Going into wrestlekingdom 13 a year after was a much different tone. With the announcement of All Elite Wrestling two days prior to WrestleKingdom 13 the writing was on the wall. A new vibrant, ambitious wrestling company was in the rise with all the momentum in the world. With their starting roster a top 5 of the best in the world and a veteran who’s mastered the art of reinvention.

All Elite Wrestling was born into the world on January 2019 a year later they are arguably the hottest wrestling company in the world. They have created a true alternative to global juggernaut, Disney of wrestling that is WWE. In less that year AEW was secured a prime time deal with TNT and airs every Wednesday night going head to head with WWEs NXT. Also within that year TNT decided to go all in and sign them to a three year extension and a championship belt in the new wrestling league now, The TNT champion. AEW regularly wins the ratings war with NXT and people are starting to jump ship from WWE to AEW. A lot of wrestlers are starting to get frustrated with the over control that wwe has over their creative and AEW has truly shown a more relaxed and progressive way of wrestling story telling through matches and segments. As a life long wrestling fan this is truly an amazing and unique time in the industry as the last alternative died 20 years ago with WCW. Never did I ever think a day would come where WWE would truly have an alternative, but here we are with AEW
