The world will semi-stop on February 7, 2021, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take on the Kansas City Chiefs for the last Sunday of the 2020 NFL season. Many of us will have safe and socially distanced Super Bowl parties that will include hot wings, pizza, and beer. If 2020 has taught us anything, it would be to enjoy your family and friends while you have them and create memories that will last a lifetime. Around this time, women have become the hostess, butler and, maid when this day arrives. I think it's time we switch it up and call Postmates, sit back, drink a beer, and root for the team you want to win. I know a lot of you are saying that you don't know a thing about football. I am here to help guide you on the six things you should know about football that will impress your significant other and your friends come Sunday. Below are the most repetitive rules you will hear throughout the game.

But first….

The Teams

To wear the proper jersey, you have to know the matchup. You have Tom Brady's Tampa Bay Buccaneers against Patrick Mahomes Kansas City Chiefs. You are probably wondering if two Tom Brady's exist because you don't remember Tom wearing red. Well, this will be Tom Brady's first year with the Buccaneers. He left New England for warmer weather to led the Bucs to their second Super Bowl EVER. The first time was in 2003 where they beat the Raiders 48-21 in Super Bowl 37 (without Tom). Many will question Tom Brady's age; he is currently 43 and is trying to win his seventh Super Bowl. You ask others, and they will say that he is a seasoned quarterback who is the ultimate leader in preparing his teammates on what to expect during Super Bowl week. On the other side, you have Patrick Mahomes; he's a young 25-year-old who will be entering his second Super Bowl, with his first being in 2020. The old school will face off with the new school.

Basic Rules

Holding

Holding is a word that you'll hear the most throughout the game. The rule is simple. It occurs when one player is attempting to restrict another player's path. If it is intended for a player to run upfield, it would be illegal for another player to grab a jersey or stick one's hand inside another player's equipment. You are not allowed to jerk or pull to the ground.

Penalty: 10 yards

Pass Interference

This rule is specifically for the players catching the ball which, are the wide receivers. The rule is simple: the defender (the defensive back) can only contact the wide receiver the first five yards from the scrimmage line. If the defender has contact past five yards, then a flag will be thrown causing, the penalty.

Penalty: 10 yards

Personal Foul

An unnecessary action towards another player, a perfect example of when the ref blows the whistle, a player then pushes another player or blocks a player when the play is over.

Penalty: 15 yards

Helmet to Helmet

A player uses his helmet to strike another player's helmet. Over the last ten years, the NFL has been working diligently to protect players' brains and head injuries. Having this rule in place decreases the chances of players getting CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy). According to the Mayo Clinic, the term [is] used to describe brain degeneration likely caused by repeated head traumas.

Penalty: 15 yards

Offsides

A player is on the wrong side of the line scrimmage. A player can only move simultaneously with the ball after the quarterback yells "Ready. Set. Hike" or when the ball moves.

Penalty: 5 yards

Ruffing the Passer

The NFL also takes pride in protecting their quarterbacks. As we all know, this is a business first league. Owners and players are doing whatever it takes to protect the star players. One example would be if Tom Brady were to throw a pass and an opponent decides to hit him AFTER the ball leaves his hands, that would be ruffing the passer. There wasn't a need to hit Tom Brady when he no longer has the ball.

Penalty: 15 yards

Well, ladies, I hope this info serves you well. Get ready to impress your significant other with what you know. Your knowledge might get you a special Valentine's Day gift.
