Short-term profits are prioritized over long-term gains in stock trading. Without the correct expertise, diving in can be dangerous.

Stock trading entails the purchase and sale of company shares in order to profit from price fluctuations on a daily basis. Stock traders differ from long-term stock market investors because they use a short-term approach.

While stock trading can result in quick profits for those who perfectly time the market, it also entails the risk of significant losses. The fortunes of a single company can rise faster than the market as a whole, but they can also plummet more swiftly. Individual stocks are generally not recommended for persons who do not have enough money to lose.

Why Companies Issue Shares

A few decades ago, today's corporate behemoth was most likely founded as a small private company by a visionary entrepreneur. Consider Jack Ma's incubation of Alibaba (BABA) from his Hangzhou bedroom in 1999, or Mark Zuckerberg's founding of the first version of Facebook (now Meta) from his Harvard University dorm room in 2004. In just a few decades, these technology behemoths have risen to become among the world's most powerful corporations.

However, such rapid expansion necessitates the availability of a large sum of money. To go from an idea in an entrepreneur's head to a functioning business, they must, among other things, rent an office or factory, hire people, purchase equipment and raw materials, and establish a sales and distribution network. Depending on the size and breadth of the organization, these resources will necessitate a large amount of money.

How Share Prices Are Set?

A stock market's share prices can be determined in a variety of ways. The most frequent method is to hold an auction, in which buyers and sellers submit bids and offers to buy or sell. A bid is the price someone wants to pay to buy something, while an offer (or ask) is the price someone wants to sell something for. A trade is completed when the bid and ask are equal.

Millions of investors and traders make up the total market, and their opinions on the worth of a particular stock, and thus the price at which they are willing to buy or sell it, might differ significantly. Thousands of transactions occur each trading day as investors and traders turn their intentions into actions by purchasing and/or selling a stock, causing minute-by-minute gyrations in the price.

A stock exchange is a marketplace that connects buyers and sellers of equities to facilitate trade. A stockbroker is required for ordinary people to gain access to these exchanges. Between the buyer and the seller, this stockbroker serves as a go-between. The most typical method for obtaining a stockbroker is to open an account with a well-known retail broker.

What is stock trading?

Stock trading is divided into two types:

An investor who makes 10 or more deals each month is said to be engaged in active trading. Typically, they employ a market-timing strategy, attempting to profit from short-term events (at the company level or based on market swings) in the weeks or months ahead.

Day trading is a practice used by investors who buy, sell, and close their holdings in the same stock in a single trading day, with little regard for the underlying businesses. (The quantity of a stock or fund you possess is referred to as position.) A day trader's goal is to profit from daily price movements within the next few minutes, hours, or days.
