Story of Colonel Sanders

This is the inspiring story of a boy from Henryville, Indiana, born in 1895. At the tender age of six, tragedy struck when his father passed away, leaving his mother to support the family by working in a tomato cannery. This resilient young boy took on the responsibility of cooking and caring for his siblings.

Life dealt him a challenging hand, and at the age of 10, he had to work as a farmhand to make ends meet. Despite facing adversity, he dropped out of high school in sixth grade and left home to work as a painter of horse carriages. At 16, he even managed to enlist in the U.S. Army by faking his age.

After an honorable discharge, he worked as a railway laborer and pursued a law degree at a nearby university. However, his legal career took a hit when he got into a fight, forcing him to move back in with his mother and find a job selling life insurance. Unfortunately, he got fired for not following orders.

Undeterred by setbacks, he established a ferryboat company, which achieved instant success. However, his foray into the chemical lamp manufacturing business faced tough competition from a company selling superior electric lamps. Despite these challenges, he kept pushing forward.

He tried his hand at various jobs, including working as a salesman for a tire company, but lost his job when the company closed its manufacturing plant. By the age of 40, he met the general manager of an oil company who offered him a service station to run. Unfortunately, the station closed down during the Great Depression.

In the face of adversity, he persevered. He began operating a service station rent-free in return for a percentage of sales and started serving chicken dishes, making his pan-fried chicken a local favorite. After years of hard work, he opened a proper restaurant, which thrived until tragedy struck again – a fatal shootout.

Undeterred, he rebuilt and ran a new motel with a restaurant, only to have it burn down during World War II. After the war, he faced rejection over a thousand times when trying to sell his chicken recipe to other restaurants. In 1952, at the age of 62, he finally sold his secret recipe, and Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) was born.

However, good times didn't last, and he faced more challenges, including the decline in customer traffic due to a new highway. He sold his restaurant and was left with only his savings and $105 a month from social security.

In 1959, at the age of 68, he pursued his dream to franchise KFC nationwide. Despite sleeping in the back of his car during his travels, he found success. By 1965, at the age of 75, he had turned KFC into a global phenomenon, with outlets in Canada, the UK, Mexico, and Jamaica.

Colonel Sanders, the man behind KFC, passed away at the age of 90. His legacy lives on, with over 22,000 KFC restaurants worldwide in 2018. This remarkable success story teaches us that dedication and hard work can overcome thousands of rejections and misfortunes, proving that success knows no age limit.
