Why Your Black Business "Won't Survive"
Context As I write this piece, I reflect on what brought me to the south. I lived a privileged life in California, situated in the mecca of diversity, the San Francisco Bay Area. And we can say I still live that privileged life, seeing as I can go back anytime that I want to. I was well aware of the evils of poverty and de facto segregation that lends itself to the narrative “separate but never equal.” I knew the history of internment camps in the peninsula and race riots and the establishment of the Black Panthers in the east bay. Growing up we learned about the racist Jim Crow like laws forced upon the Chinese, and we learned about the Chicano movements of Southern California. I was surrounded by whites, Asians, Hispanics, Pacific Islanders, few blacks, and an increasing population of Middle Easterners. And I got to be at the center of the Pride movement every single year. And I grew up with the notion that the south was evil, racist, and not somewhere I wanted to go.

Abstract APA style format was created to standardize scientific writing. It is used for term and research papers, theoretical articles and case studies (APA Style, 2017). This style of writing has numerous crucial details in its appearance and organization to ensure clarity and credibility. For example, when citing a source, APA style requires an “…author-date citation system” (APA Style, 2017). This author-date system provides concise details on where the information was taken from. Another organizational detail this style of writing includes are the eight main sections of the article or study. These sections include title page, abstract, introduction, method, results, discussion, references and appendices (APA Style, 2017). The benefits to writing in APA style are the better understanding and comprehension of the writers ideas, and improvement the writer's critical thinking.

You look at your calendar. In red ink writes "Finals Week" on next week's dates. You have to take a double look. It can't be finals and or midterms week yet, can it? Fear not, student, if you follow this, you should be able to survive.
Freshman College Strategies
I can think back to last year at this time and the kind of stress I experienced was nothing compared to my first semester in college; from receiving college acceptance and denial letters, to preparing for the last set of ACT and SAT dates available, my whole high school career was less stressful then this semester. I went to a high school that did not operate like most since we used (unfortunately) the seven-period schedule, where we would spent the entire year with the same seven classes. That system personally didn't help me adjust to what college had in store, especially midterms and finals. In high school, finals week came around at the end of the year, sometimes in May, and our knowledge would be put to the test. However, my limited experiences were expanded! I will be giving some tips to help you succeed during the semester, midterms, and finals season and bypass that unnecessary stress:
Kayla HillPublished 6 years ago in EducationWriting the Right Way
We are exposed to words and letters every day. Even if you never leave your home you still come in contact with some form of writing. When you take a shower, there is writing on your shampoo, body wash, conditioner, etc. If you walk into the kitchen. Oh...that's a landmine of words, sentences, phrases, and slogans! If this is a skill that we come in contact with every day (and use more now than ever with email and text messaging), why can nobody do it correctly?

I can vividly recall this past Thanksgiving involving a fork full of cheesy macaroni, and an unsettling scene from the film: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In the beginning, we meet the young chocolate lover Charlie, and his father; a factory worker who caps toothpaste tubes. One day the company invests in a more efficient machine to cap the tubes, eliminating his job.

I understand that people have bad days, because I have bad days, and I would have generally assumed that most people take out their anger and stress in a civil manner (as in not taking it out on a complete stranger.) Presently, and after a stressful year of working in retail and sales, it's getting harder to make the assumption that everyone is generally a decent human being. So this is an open letter to any one who finds themselves grumpily walking into a store or has already done so. It won't apply to everybody, just some people, because I'd still like to believe that almost everyone is decent.
College Students, Social Media, and What They Don’t Know
Living in the twenty-first century, technology is heavily used and depended on daily for basic needs, especially in college. While college students use this advanced technology for justified purposes such as to write papers, keep up with online work, and keep contact through email with their professors, there is damage that is created when we begin to talk about social media. College students have used social media for positive purposes such as keeping family updated about their progress or having a pen pal far across the globe to learn about a different culture, but glamorization of binge drinking alcohol is not one of them, yet it is so popular.
