Why Is It Like This?

The Story of the Human Condition

Today, death seems to be a normalcy. We turn on the news and hear about another 30 people killed and it sucks; But we move on cause you know... What else can we do? We go to work and we hear about a president who seems to spew more hate than he actually speaks about politics. We hear theories that the earth is flat and, "THEY'RE LYING TO US!" Distrust comes out more often than truth and worst of all, hate always outshines love.

So everyday we are forced to ask ourself the question that seems less like an elephant in the room and more like a herd of elephants, "Why is it like this?" Why are people dying? Why are people killing? Why can no one tell the truth? Why is there no hope left? And before we know it we've quit asking the questions and we've fallen in so deep that we've become a part of the problem. We've resigned ourselves to the mundane flow of life and forgotten that change begins within the very depths of who we are.

The delusion of all of this is that if we could just start over and try again that things would be different. We think that maybe if we could go back and put more gun control in place that less people would have died? Maybe if we could go back and dig up more dirt on Trump he wouldn't have gotten elected and racism wouldn't have had the spark that started the forest fire? But the problem is that all of these options forget that WE created the world in which we live. That the problem is us. ALL OF US! And until we change, we will screw up time, after time, after time.

If we change politics, we get more laws and those laws get broken. When we protest those we protest against protest against us. It's a never ending cycle that always seems to remind us that, "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction." But if we change ourselves, our hearts, our very souls, the way that we think, the way that we speak the way we smile, hug, text, post or laugh... We begin to create a culture that changes the world around us.

I am convinced that more than anything the world is calling out for a generation of leaders to stand from the ashes of despair and change the world. So let us rise. Let us facilitate the change that we want to see in the world by BEING the change that we want to see in the world. Let us talk less and do more. Let us push into truth and create a culture that laments any lie that would try to divide us. Let us stand for justice. Let us walk by distraction without giving it the breath in our lungs that is so quickly fleeting. Let us change ourselves. And when that change begins. Maybe not today, or tomorrow, or even a year from now; but someday, the world will begin to change. And maybe in our lifetime, we will begin to see the seeds of love that we spread take root and sprout through the ruin of hate and create beauty for the generations to come.
