Trump is Happy with The Deal.

As Trump arrived at the latest G7 event, hosting world leaders from the G7 Trump arrived with a smile like a Cheshire cat. Trump said he was happy with the newly signed agreement between the Iranians and his own regime to supposedly end the war between them once and for all. Many are thinking we have been here before, and everything broke down before, while supposedly both nations were on a ceasefire. Can we hope that this time, better things can come of this and both sides can move on?

Trump stated, "Let the ships start their engines and let the oil flow". Announcing to the world that the US and Iran would allow shipping to flow once more. That Iran's non-toll-free blocking of the Strait of Hormuz was over, with the US blockade on Iranian ports also lifted. So it begs the question, what was the war for, as the Strait of Hormuz was already open for business? What's happened is that the strait has been restored to business as normal. Which will leave pundits and people asking what was the war for?

Trump got hoodwinked into the war by Netanyahu. Trump was convinced by the wily old fox, Netanyahu, that if the US and Israel jointly attacked Iran, the regime would fall and the people would rise. However, the Iranians weren't playing by the script of Bibi and the 'Tango man' Trump. Despite assassinating the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khanmeni and a top echelon of military brass, religious and political leaders, the regime did not fall, and the people didn't rise. The Iranians quickly elected a new supreme leader, the son of the deceased Ali Khamenei, who became Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei. Regime change did occur as Trump wanted, but not in the way he wanted, if you follow me. The new leadership is even more hardline that the one sent to meet Allah.

Despite everything the Americans and Israelis threw at it, including the kitchen sink, the regime is, to quote a Simple Minds song, "Alive and Kicking". Iran responded with attacks on Israel and Gulf nations hosting US bases with drones and missiles. So, with the signing of a peace deal that is in effect another 60-day ceasefire, with talks all being well to start there afterwards. Vice-President JD Vance said the US would help Iran get rid of its enriched uranium. Well, Mr. Vance, we will have to see as your boss says, "How that goes" !!!

It seems after tooing and frowing with Netanyahu, Trump has convinced the Israeli Prime Minister to stop his actions against Hezbollah. Whether Hezbollah will abide by this is another matter unless Iran has told Hezbollah to stop. However, Israel has said that if any actions violate this stopping of military actions, Israel will respond and Hezbollah no doubt likewise. However, Israel said it will not withdraw from southern Lebanon, a tranche of the Gaza Strip or the part of Syria it currently occupies.

Many critics of this deal, as Trump calls it, are no better and possibly worse than the JCPO deal that Obama and others drew up in 2015, according to experts. Trump, if you recall, walked away from this deal on his first time in power, saying he could get a better deal. As with this failed war, now Trump was probably convinced by that devil on his shoulder, Netanyahu, to walk away. The JCPO deal was working well with the Iranians keeping their end of the bargain, allowing inspectors in to make sure Iran was not going back on its commitments. Conversely, when Trump walked away because he thought it allowed Iran to gain a bomb, Iran started enriching uranium to 60 %, nearly enough to make a nuke, although Iran has always claimed it never wanted a bomb.

So, have any of Trump and Netanyahu's war aims been met? Well, using a Sky News model, let's look into this. No - Iran's nuclear industry remains standing. No - Regime change didn't happen in the way Trump wanted. No - People did not take to the streets and overthrow the regime. No - Iran has not reined in Hezbollah, the Houthis, its proxies in Iraq and even Hamas, although Gaza has literally been erased from the face of the Earth, Hamas remain standing albeit weakened. And at least 70% of Iran's missiles stand ready for use.

So, despite the needless loss of life on all sides, millions of dollars spent, the world economy taking a hit, we have arrived back at the beginning. In which case, there was no point to this war, as people have said all along - simples!!!
