Congress: An Intentional Giant Mess from the Start
» KEY POINTS The House of Representatives is supposed to be the “Legislature of the People” and the Senate the “Legislature of the Land”. Neither are doing the job as intended. How did we get to this point and why is there no cure? No adjustment to legislative rules is going to fix a fundamentally broken system. We must Constitutionally overhaul how the Legislative Branch is set up in its entirety.

OG CollectionPublished about a year ago in The SwampInnovation; The Unknown Alliance Between Business and Government
Milton Friedman’s view in Capitalism And Freedom proposes the idea that government should exist in the market solely to maximize unconstrained economic freedom. Government intervention into the marketplace that limits or forces consumer decision-making cannot be justified. Friedman’s argument for market fundamentalism is seemingly at odds with the historical reality of the role of government in the United States. From state police powers, to Progressive Era reforms, through the New Deal government whether being state or federal has always shaped the contours of capitalism through political, social, and cultural change. Friedmans point of view differs from the consumer health and environmental protections era (1964-1977) and the rise of the idea of the developmental state. Friedman’s philosophy has guided the idea of market fundamentalism within the false notions of the invisible hand driving innovation instead of a combination of public and private sectors. This idea is negligent to the fact that government presence in the innovation economy acts as the only entity that can invest in certain sectors. The notion that the government shouldn’t pick winners is supplanted by the idea of the government supporting large, medium, and small firms to compete for the best technology.
Will The Newly Passed Inflation Reduction Act Leads to Higher Inflation
This will result in a possible 3% tax hike for individuals making under $10,000 year, but because the affluent are receiving tax credits, no one seems to mind. The Inflation Reduction Act is well known to raise taxes for everyone; in fact, the Congressional Budget Office and the Joint Committee on Taxation have both come out and said as much.
EstalontechPublished 2 years ago in The SwampFive lessons the world can learn from the war in Ukraine
When Vladimir Putin launched his invasion of Ukraine on February 24, he thought his army would easily capture Kiev. Putin may have thought that the invasion of Budapest in 1956 and Prague in 1968 by the Soviet forces would be repeated. But nothing like that happened. The war is still in full swing. No one knows how this war will end.

I have a lot of regrets in my life. I am a former alcoholic who lived with many undiagnosed issues for the first thirty years of my life. I never did anything truly abhorrent, but there were plenty of friends and partners I treated like absolute shit.
Alex Mell-TaylorPublished 2 years ago in The SwampWhat Really Causes Inflation Made Easy to Understand
I will keep this short and simple because otherwise, you will not be here for long. Although we should not simplify complex social sciences like economics, to understand what inflation is, what causes it and why we are experiencing it, we must make these concepts more accessible to everyone.

June 24, 2022. Friday Morning. Every American woke up to breaking news of the Supreme Court overturning a ruling that had been in place for decades. States are now allowed to implement a ban on abortions and it will not be found unconstitutional. Roe v Wade was important because it allowed women to decide what to do with their body in the event of a pregnancy. There are currently 13 states that have an abortion ban implemented, putting access to abortion in jeopardy.
Iris HarrisPublished 2 years ago in The SwampEconomic collapse is upon us
I remember being a kid when my parents had to go through a financial crisis. It was back in 2008 and it was caused by the American housing bubble. Back then I only felt it partly because my parents made sure that I and my sister were well-taken care of.
Drake FlyerPublished 2 years ago in The SwampDeeper Problems at the Oscars
Most people are understandably talking about Will Smith really slapping Chris Rock in the face at last night's Oscar ceremony, after Rock made a tasteless joke about Will's wife Jada Pinkett Smith's hair (she has alopecia or hair loss). What Smith did was wrong, no doubt, but that incident uncovered more serious issues:
Paul LevinsonPublished 2 years ago in The SwampCould Vlad Be Removed From Power?
Vladimir Putin has been in power for 20 years. His political party, the 'United Russia Party', is accused of rigging the vote at general elections. This results in Mr Putin staying in power. Any opposition parties are sidelined and cannot get the opportunity to broadcast alternative policies. Putin's opponents usually end up silenced, exiled, or in prison. Look at Putin's most vociferous opponent, Alexi Navalny, doing time on trumped-up charges.
