Lourdes Josephina VitasPublished 6 years ago in The SwampEquality Does Not Exist
In the last couple of years, equality has been the center of debates and discussion in politics, society, the workplace or just within our personal conversations. Gender equality especially, has definitely been one of the major topic within the equality discussion. However, equality does not exist because there is so much more to it.
Aki KoizumiPublished 6 years ago in The SwampImmigrant: What's in a Name
Immigrants and immigration are no doubt the hottest buttons in political debates recently. On March 5th, 2018, many Dreamers, AKA DACA recipients, marched on DC demanding a resolution to the DACA deal. March 5th was the deadline, but so far, no final bipartisan agreement has been reached. So the Dreamers made their voice known.

Guns: When it comes to guns, we are stubborn, selfish, and foolish with the direction and mindset most of us to have on gun control. Most of the actions and opinions of these politicians and gun nuts have bewildered me and highlight the corruption and stupidity of our society. I wonder if there was a time when it didn't take a tragedy or a few kids getting shot to care about one another. How is it that when you're the age of 18, you are old enough to buy an AR-15—an assault rifle which was created to make it easier to slaughter humans—but be too young to buy a Bud Light.
Pappa PlantPublished 6 years ago in The SwampGun Control Debate
The gun debate has two sides, one being gun control, the other being those who want to maintain the access to guns and change nothing. However, in my opinion as a former crisis interventionist, a lot of these situations stem from an inability to resolve conflict.
The Common Woman, Part 1
The challenge that prompted this essay: I am actually interested in why so many in the group seem to have a negative view towards modern feminism? Radical feminists exist probably in all waves. And in my opinion, some theories such as toxic masculinity effect both men and women in negative ways. (Please not a shit show, I generally want to hear genuine counterarguments.)
Robert GregoryPublished 6 years ago in The SwampThe Common Woman: Part 2
But it gets even worse. More dangerous than any of this is the solution to the workplace problem propounded not merely on the fringes of feminism, but in the mainstream media: the solution that there shall be no children, that by various unnatural devices a woman shall set herself “free” from the most fundamental function of womanhood in order to serve some of the most superficial functions of modern civilisation. The very fact that the unnatural devices are considered necessary is itself instructive, for in that very fact the commercial sphere half-admits its essential inferiority to the domestic. Nuns, feeling themselves called to something higher than the family, have remained childless for professional purposes; but where is the woman who would take a vow of chastity for McDonald’s, and wear to work a habit with the “golden arches” hanging from a necklace? Where is the business man or woman foolish enough to expect her to do such a thing? Modern capitalism is neither as mad nor as noble as that. Instead of self-control we have birth control, which is designed to ensure that there will be no births to control, and abortion, which is very careful to keep quiet about what is being aborted.

Political promises Lies Under Another Name I keep seeing social media posts, supporting politicians who promise to deal with all the world's problems. If only they get into power. They make it seem so simple: they will end homelessness, they will end poverty, they will bring about world peace, they will end injustice. They will personally see that the public health services have all the money they need, they will ensure the ending of higher education tuition fees, they will change the world, they will ensure wonderful summer's of peace, love, and prosperity. They will end terrorism.

It’s hard, you know, being a parent. You have to be there, always, even when you yourself want to run and hide. You have to be the protector, the rock, the defender. You have to always be strong even when you feel weak. No matter what. It’s hard. And the current events in our world don’t make it any easier.

Another school shooting has happened, a tragedy that could of easily been avoided, and no, not by enforcing gun control. I want to bring attention to some facts and strange behaviors that are being overlooked, hopefully to enlighten others to a better understanding of what is going on.
Beautiful SurrenderPublished 6 years ago in The SwampUnpleasant Facts
Let us begin with facts. Hard, verifiable facts. First there have not been 18 school shootings since January. Not every discharge of a firearm on a campus constitutes a "school shooting." For more details look here:

Just when I thought people with mental health issues were receiving empathy and understanding from society, Mr. Trump declares people should be screened for a mental health illness before gaining a gun license or purchasing a gun.
