Meghan Markle Invited Hillary Clinton to Meet Baby Archie

Soon after Hillary Clinton said publicly that she wanted to give Meghan Markle a hug she got to do just that last Tuesday, November 12, 2019. The Duchess of Sussex secretly invited the former Secretary of State to visit her and her family at Frogmore Cottage. Prince Harry was not at home at the time of the visit, but Hillary spent time with Meghan and baby Archie. While there, Mrs. Clinton was able to get her wish to hug Meghan and to hold Archie just as she has been accustomed to holding her own grandchildren.

According to the Daily Mail, the well-known women knew about each other, but they had never met in person before.

The Meeting

The meeting was everything Clinton wanted and expected, and it was the same for the new mother. Both women admire and have a great deal of respect for each other. The Daily Mail reported that the two of them are mutual fans.

Markle's Admiration for Clinton

Markle began admiring Clinton when she was only 11 years old. Meghan wrote Clinton while she was the first lady at the White House when her husband, Bill Clinton was the President of the United States.

At the time, Meghan wrote to Clinton for help getting an ad off the television. It was a dishwashing soap ad that Meghan thought was sexist even at her young age. They both remembered the letter and discussed it in person for the first time.

Clinton's Admiration for Markle

The admiration is mutual between the two women even though Clinton is much older. Her daughter Chelsea is around the same age as Meghan. Chelsea is 39, and Meghan is 38. The 72-year-old mother and grandmother is accustomed to being around young children.

Chelsea has three little children which make Hillary a doting grandmother to five-year-old Charlotte, two-year-old Aidan, and 4-month-old Jasper. That means Clinton's youngest grandchild is younger than Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor who is now six months old. He was born on May 6, 2019. Meghan told Hillary that Archie is already crawling. Hillary said it is early for babies to crawl at six months. Research shows that some babies begin crawling as old as ten months.

Things in Common

Because of their age difference, people might not think the two women have much in common. After Markle opened up about the struggles of being a new mom in the public eye, Clinton expressed her sympathy and respect for the royal.

Both women have had to endure public scrutiny over the years. Clinton still remembers how she endured criticisms throughout her political career. Since Meghan met and began dating Prince Harry in 2016, she has had to deal with sarcasms, bullying, and attacks.

Clinton has seen and heard about the struggles the Duchess of Sussex has had to endure. That's why she told BBC, “Oh my God, I want to hug her. I feel as a mother I just want to put my arms around her.” She added, “I want to tell her to hang in there, don’t let those bad guys get you down. Keep going, do what you think is right.”

How the Meeting Came About

Hillary and her daughter Chelsea were in England on their book tour for The Book of Gutsy Women: Favorite Stories of Courage and Resilience. Chelsea had already left the country and was not on the visit to see Meghan and Archie.

A meeting was arranged a few days after Clinton said positive things about Meghan and defended her while discussing the ongoing attacks from the British tabloids on BBC Radio 5 Live. On the air, Hillary said Meghan should be given a break because all she has done was fall in love, get married and is now raising a family.

The former presidential candidate, secretary of state, and first lady said she believes the treatment of Meghan has been based on sexism and racism, and it is “heartbreaking and wrong.” She said everybody should be celebrating Prince Harry and Meghan's true love story. She concluded by saying, "You can just look at them and see that.”
