David Cameron Appointed as Foreign Secretary

When David Cameron stepped down in 2016 most political pundits thought it was game over. However, in a cabinet reshuffle, the former Prime Minister is back.

David Cameron has been appointed, as Foreign Secretary. By all accounts, Cameron is 'cock-a-hoop' to be back in the cabinet. He has described Sunak as a "strong and capable politician". Really, what planet has Cameron been on since Wishy-Washy was appointed (not voted in by the public) as Prime Minister? But then, as Cameron, is now working for Sunak, he has to be an arse-licker. Only appropriate and praising words will do now David Cameron is back. Bringing Cameron back would be like, Joe Biden, bringing Barack Obama, back. Although, some say, Obama has been pulling Biden's strings in the background (at least on some things).

How can Cameron come back if he is no longer a serving MP? Is Sunak desperateto appoint David Cameron to his cabinet? Many pundits will be critical of Sunak's bringing back Cameron. Others may see it as a bold move in difficult circumstances.

Cameron's predecessor, James Cleverly, is now Home Secretary. Cleverly was moved to the job after Sunak sacked Suella Braverman. Many on the left will be happy that this quasi-fascist has been sacked. Braverman, belongs to the right of the party some say the far-right. Sunak has bowed, to pressure, to get rid of his controversial, Home Secretary. Suella only has herself to blame for her sacking. Describing pro-Palestine marchers as "haters". Then saying being homeless was a "lifestyle choice". Then commenting that the police stop right-wing marches but do not stop those of the left.

Make no mistake, Braverman has supporters in the Conservative party. Braverman has support in the country at large. There as as many who agree with and like Braverman. Just as there are those who cannot stand her.

Sunak has gambled on appointing Cameron back to government. What kind of FS will he be? More alarmingly for Sunak what will Braverman do? Now she is free, on the backbenches, to speak her mind. She has always harboured ambitions of replacing Sunak. She may wait her time, for Sunak to lose the next election. Then, make her move, in a leadership race, to become Tory leader and her ultimate ambition, to be Prime Minister. She may join forces with Priti Patel female former Home Secretary and another darling of the right.

Sunak knows he may be in the dying days of this Tory administration. He knows he will not be able to live up to his 5 pledges. Time has run out for the 5th Tory Prime Minister. Sunak will feel that re-shuffling his cabinet will be the last (presumably) one before the general election.

The speech read out by King Charles written for him by the government didn't contain anything new. Only the rowing back on policies to stop climate change. Something Charles, who as a man, who likes to champion the environment, would have been, uncomfortable with. Maybe that's why Charles looked fed up and looked like he wished he was somewhere else.

In appointing Cleverly as Home Secretary, Sunak may feel more comfortable with him. The new Home Secretary doesn't have a blemish against him. Unlike, the more out-spoken, Braverman. Cleverly is not the kind of man to blurt out anything controversial at least not in public.

Sunak is not popular in the Conservative Party in parliament and with Tory voters. And now, with the sacking of Braverman, she will devote her time to bringing him down. Of course, publically she will be the loyal Tory. But they say "Hell hath no fury like a woman's scorn" and Sunak will now find out just what that means.
