Rumors whispered throughout the eons say that fashion flourishes in cycles. These iconic couture blooms follow the natural spirals and cosmic patterns of the universe. We are in a constant state of flux and movement.

The future of fashion is all about the exploration of this movement. One of the most innovative designers in this space is the haute couture goddess Iris Van Herpen. She has produced many amazing garments by implementing 3D printing techniques into her dresses that capture movement on film, using materials like silk, houndstooth, leather, tulle mesh, and more.

As the roaring 2020’s continue we will see more of this motion being explored once our wardrobes get on the grid. Interactive clothing connected via Bluetooh and futuristic apps will give wearers the ability to change the colors and patterns of their clothing remotely. For example, Vetement’s Off-White line for Spring/Summer 2019 included a piece with a screen on it so you could change colors dynamically with your movement. Soon shifting garments will proliferate the streets.

Catch My Vibe

Billie Whitehouse, founder of Wearable Experiments, introduced a piece called the Fan Jersey; a shirt which fans can wear in order to feel major plays during football matches. Connected via Bluetooth, haptic vibrations are relayed directly from the game, creating an emotional attachment for the wearer.

This concept can also be utilized in live performances to connect the viewer with the performers. Imagine, for example, if you could feel the same heartbeat as two dancers onstage in love. Being synced with these haptic vibrations will draw you ever more into the performance and an entirely new meaning will be created for the phrase sexual tension.

This company is also the creator of a tech-infused yoga line that uses subtle vibrations to guide the wearer into anatomically correct yoga poses. I'm an xs if anyone wants to buy me a pair in all black.

Light is the New Black

Light emitting fashion has been thoroughly explored within many wearable tech disciplines, with several radiant garments being made available to consumers over the last decade. Yet, the world hasn't seen any systemic changes in fashion to date. I wish to illuminate our lack of social acceptance to bring it out of the dark recesses of the closet inside of our subconscious mind, and into the light.

Humanity is notorious for being averse to change. Maybe we are fearful to stand out or worried about getting our hopes up if we cannot execute the design and futurism displayed in our art and dreams just right. But the future is still unwritten. Wearing an interactive garment that responds to your environment can not only allow you more freedom in self-expression, but it also gives the experience of a full-sensory perception of life.

The future doesn't belong only to the world we know today. There are still many new worlds yet to be explored and an immense potential for discovery. We must explore these unknown universes by addressing all possible levels: physical, digital, art, tech and the spiritual realities beyond. Wearble technology gives us access into realms where our human interaction can transform the essence of fashion and perception.

As time goes on, myself and other innovators are hoping people become less rigid and more accustomed to "wearables" enhancing the lives of all.
