Making Vintage Versitile

"I love their outfit!"

That's a phrase you hear—and probably think of—often after watching a film. I know that was something I said to myself a million times while watching Clueless, because seriously, folks—have you seen Cher's outfits? Classy, cute, and undoubtably nostalgic for the 90s.

We give movies a lot of credit for shaping our social lives, but a less spoken of fact is the impact it has on our fashion sense. Don't lie—I know you wanted one of those red-vests Marty Mcfly wore in Back To The Future. Or maybe one of those jackets the Pink Ladies wore in Grease. Regardless, our fashion sense is borrowed from the people we yearn to be; main characters, funny side characters, the crazy-cool rebel dressed in leather.

But it's this connection between the Silver Screen and our style that makes certain era's nostalgic—regardless of wether or not you were alive then!

I grew up on a bucket-load of classic films, all centered around the American Hollywood 50s and 60s time period. Name an Audrey Hepburn film, and I've probably seen it. Same goes for Marilyn Monroe. But constantly watching hoop-skirts, petty coats, and pinned-up hairstyles planted the emotional memory in my mind that this was the style I grew up with.

So whenever I see someone dressed in saddle shoes and a swing coat, I instantly get hurdled back into reminiscence of my childhood.

But wait—I wasn't even alive in the 50s!

Sometimes fashion is eternal, darling, just ask my closet. It wouldn't be able to get a word out, given the fact that it's stuffed front to back with circle skirts and cardigans. But if it could, it would say 'someone stop her before she buys more capri pants!'.

I'm constantly searching the world for cute vintage styles I can buy and bring back home. It makes me feel like I'm living in the movies I grew up in, and thats a sense of nostalgia I wish to carry with me throughout the rest of my life.

Well, not only me, but the rest of the world too!

I get it—some people don't like the idea of flowing skirts and dolled-up hair—because they don't like the style. I agree that it's more comfortable to wear sweats and a jumper during the harsh winters, or crop-tops and shorts in the sweltering heat, but that shouldn't dismiss the idea of making vintage versatile again!

How cool would it be to walk down the street in a polka-dot dress, hair tucked neatly under a circle hat, shiny, red wedges, and a sparkly clutch without getting gawked at by bystanders! No more 'I think they're in the wrong time' comments, or 'what are they wearing?' remarks.

If we want to dress like Audrey Hepburn, we very well can!

If would simply be nicer to see more people showing off their nostalgic confidence as well.

Striped pants are always cool, no matter what anyone says. Just look at how inviting and warm they look! Just because the 50s was known to be the age of the prima-donnas, doesn't mean we have to sacrifice comfort for class.

For a night out on the town, going to see an Opera, or maybe even a dinner date—this is the way to go. It's elegant and chic, and it looks great with pearls.

The 50s is a multi-ranging textbook of fashion, not only limited to the pinstripes and dogtooth patterns that are stereotyped to commonly. It's an incredibly beautiful era for fashion, and I'm glad Classic films are able to provide nostalgic sense to those who watch.
