I let my son Jarret have alcohol if he's supervised by me. I figure if he's already drinking, then he might as well do so in a safe space. And he may very well be drinking given that he's in the 9th grade and very secretive about his life. He's usually pretty tight-lipped even if he's had the one drink I allow him to have, whereas I gab about my love life and the classes I've been taking at the local community college. Maybe, though, if I throw some fun into the mix he'll open up more, which is why I'm turning to the best drinking games for two people.

Two Truths and a Lie

If Jarret were already open to talking to me, then I wouldn't need to resort to this classic game. You say two truths and a lie. If your partner guesses correctly which is the lie then you take a drink; if they're wrong they take a drink. This would one of the best drinking games for two people because I'd be able to learn two true things about my son!

"Never Have I Ever..."

This is another one of the best drinking games for two people. You say a thing you've never done, like, "I've never drunk Purell to get drunk," and then if your partner has done that thing, they have a drink. And then you switch. Luckily, Jarret has told me he's never drunk Purell, which is one of the worst life hacks you should never try.

Speed Facts

This is one of the best drinking games for two people because you're able to highlight how much you already know about each other. You go back and forth saying true things about your partner and once you get three wrong, you take a drink. I was actually touched by how much Jarret knows about me. He knows I own one of the best tactical wallets you should consider getting!

Thunderdome

This is one of the best drinking games for two people. It's like Speed Facts but with categories and you only get one strike. Just choose a category like "90s alternative rock" or "best freeze dried backpacking meals" and go back and forth saying items in that category. The person who can't think of an item in that category takes a drink.

Drunk Checkers

One of the best drinking games for two people is checkers. People have turned Battleship into a drinking game but that's super boring to me! Just take a drink every time you capture a piece.

Drunk Bullshit

Bullshit is one of the few card games I actually like, so that makes it one of the best drinking games for two people. You take turns going through your deck of cards putting down all the 2s, 3s, 4s, etc that you have until you're all out, that is, unless someone calls, "Bullshit!" If that person is right the bullshitter takes a drink; if they're wrong, you take a drink.

Hot Spot

This is one of the best drinking games for two people if you like to sing. Pick a word for inspiration, like, "Peaches," and start going back and forth singing songs inspired by the song you just sang. For "Peaches" you could sing the song "Peaches" by The Presidents of the United States of America, then the song "Lemon Tree" by Fool's Garden because they're both about fruit, and then the song, "Elenor Rigby" by The Beatles because that's what "Lemon Tree" makes me think of, etc. If you leave your partner out there for too long, you have to take a drink! You might even find yourself singing along and forgetting you're even playing if you've had enough drinks.

A more advanced version of this game is singing every song to the tune of "Two Princes" by The Spin Doctors. I came up with that variation after seeing the sketch "Now That's What I Call Songs Sung to the Tune of 'Two Princes' by the Spin Doctors Vol 5."

High/Low

This is one of the best drinking games for two people because it's the easiest game of all. Draw a card from a deck and then take turns guessing if the next card is higher or lower. If your guess is correct you don't drink; if your guess is wrong you do. Then it's the other person's turn.

Mind Meld

This is one of the best drinking games for two people because it's the most fun. Both you and your partner look at each other, countdown from three, and then say a word. The goal after that is to say the same word based on what both words make you think of. So you could say, "Paul McCartney," and your partner could say, "John Lennon," and then the word they have in common is, "The Beatles." Take a drink every time your words don't match! Even though this game is the ideal game for 2 people, you can play it with more. You just have everyone guess at once, or you go around guessing in a circle.

Movie Drinking Games

Movie drinking games are some of the best drinking games for two people. And that's coming from someone who's played the games! You get double bonding because you're drinking together, watching a movie together, and hopefully cracking jokes while watching the movie together too. Jarret loves action movies, so we take drinks every time someone's shot, punched in the face, delivers a one-liner, makes something blow up, etc. I learn nothing about Jarret when we play this, but this game tops the list of fun drinking games for us!
