Label-Free Living
stream of consciousness
Labels labels
Have you got yours?
Have you found your very own combination of words?
To make you feel special and complete
To set you apart, make you sound unique?
Have you found something to define
This mind and body that you call mine
This spirit, this soul
That is fractured not whole
Or do you realise it’s all insane?
You’ve everything to lose and nothing to gain
To put yourself in a definable box
In the hope that others will stop throwing rocks
Or you’re hoping to find others like you
Believing they will be loving, too
Yet loving people exist everywhere
Sharing a label is no guarantee they will treat you fair
Cast off these terms you sew onto your clothes,
For you are a spirit - something your heart already knows.
Do you not see the irony?
That attaching some label is now the common way to be?
Try to get yourself out of your head
And live your life from your heart instead
Approach the world with your love not fear
Dispell your belief that its not safe out here
The safety you seek is actually inside,
It’s waiting for you to find where it hides
Build up your confidence in who you actually are,
Which is not definable by a word
But by the love you impart

I want everyone I know who is struggling with who they are to read this NOW. Especially my daughter. Thank you for this!
Wow! Absolutely speechless right now! So powerful! Perfect!
PREACHHHHH!!!! Your poem was soooo deep and had so much truth to it!
The labels you sew in to your clothes hit hard for me.
