Today we are going to be reviewing the E-CLIPSE dry herb vaporizer, one of the hottest vapes currently hitting the market. The E-CLIPSE is a small, digital convection vape that comes equipped with a ceramic heating chamber and complete digital control over the temperature.

Let’s cover the basics and have a quick look at the stats first.

Quick Vape Details

  • Small & Powerful – only 3.5 inches tall
  • Digital LED control screen
  • Temperature control from 300 to 435 Fahrenheit
  • Ceramic Heating chamber
  • 2200 mAh Lithium polymer battery

Basically, this is a small, powerful little vape that is designed to offer a strong hit of flavor and a clean smoking experience—all without requiring too much experience with vaporizers.

The main selling points of the E-CLIPSE, in our opinion, is the speed of the vape and the taste it produces. When we say it’s speedy we mean it—30 seconds and the vape is heated up and you’re good to go. And the taste produced by the E-CLIPSE is surprisingly flavorful, due in part to the ceramic heating chamber.

The flavor can also be chalked up to the adjustable temperature settings that make it easy to enjoy a variety of vapor levels. Set the temperature to low, and you’ll enjoy light vapors easy on the throat and barely visible. Set the temperature to over 400 degrees and enjoy big rips producing large vapor clouds. Dealer’s choice.

The E-CLIPSE vape pen for weed uses convection technology. Unlike combustion powered vapes like the AGO G5 that bring the heating element into direct contact with the buds being smoked (think glass pipes), convection technology passes warmth through the air which heats the substance, producing a pleasurable vapor that boasts an improvement in flavor with less wear and tear on the lungs.

Convection vapes are healthier and stealthier; there is less of an odor produced upon use. This makes is a great vaporizer for people who want to stay discreet about their herbal intake, as well as those who don't want to smell like pot all the time.

The E-CLIPSE dry herb vaporizer is also easy to use – load your weed into the heating chamber at the top of the vape and go to town. Once it is powered on, you don’t have to press any other buttons apart from the temperature settings. You will notice the temperature climb on the digital display screen.

Something else you'll enjoy about the E-CLIPSE vape is its portability. At around 3.5” tall and less than an inch thick, this vape can actually fit in a pack of cigarettes and will slide into your pocket easily.

Similar convection vapes may not have full temperature control, but rather, a few settings they deem to be ideal. Some combustion vapes like the Atmosrx or AGO G5 have no temperature settings at all—and that just tends to decrease the versatility of the vape exponentially.

Using it is easy as pie. Just turn it on, heat the coil and your herbs will be heated until they turn to ash as if you’re smoking a glass pipe—just more convenient. But much like the Stoner Joe Vape, the E-CLIPSE delivers a wide range of temperatures you can customize for your personal preference.

The digital screen display is also a welcome feature that you will enjoy. The LED screen is easy to read and it’s got all of the information you’ll need to use the vape – battery level, current temperature, the temperature you are looking to heat to, and whether the chamber is maintaining or heating up.

The E-CLIPSE vape distributes heat throughout the entirety of the oven, aka the ceramic heating chamber, making the need to mix the herb at the halfway point in order to vape everything evenly a moot point. At the end of your vape session, you will find that everything is evenly toasted, eliminating the need to mix things around.

Overall, the E-CLIPSE vape is a no fuss, no muss way to get the most enjoyment out of your weed.

How to Use the E-CLIPSE

Although we have seen reviews for herb vapes that say grinding isn’t necessary, it really is a big advantage and we still recommend using a grinder to break down your buds before vaping. If you’re on the go, a grinder card comes in handy—just stash it in your travel kit. Or grind before you go!

Remove the mouthpiece from the top of the vape to reveal the heating chamber and load your ground cannabis into the chamber. Don’t overfill, or pack it too tight, but you can pat your packing down. Convection vapes benefit from a looser pack that isn’t too tight because of airflow. Use your fingers or the included tool to pack down your herb. When you’re done replace the mouthpiece and close the chamber.

It really doesn't get simpler.

The E-CLIPSE and Wax Concentrates

Dry herbs begin to vaporize at varying degrees of temperature but once you start getting above 300 degrees you know its vaping. Meanwhile wax needs a higher temperature to achieve proper levels. That being said, most dry herb vaporizers that are designed for concentrates have to achieve a higher temperature in order to vaporize the product.

Wax vapes, aka dab pens, take an extremely hot heating coil great and put it into direct contact with the wax. You might get some sort of vapor with the wax in the E-CLIPSE, but we don’t recommend and you’ll likely end up damaging the thing.

However, all is not lost. E-CLIPSE is still a great option for smokers who enjoy ground up herbs and ground up moon rocks weed.

Cleaning the E-CLIPSE

Keeping your dry herb vaporizer clean is key to getting clean, flavorful puffs on the regular, and fortunately, it’s pretty easy. Just make sure to empty out the heating chamber after each vape session—you can leave something half-vaped and you will be fine, but technically, more time in the chamber will just give residue more time to stick around.

And any left-over residue may impact the taste of future vapors and flavors. Use the dabber aka scraping tool to clear out any herb particles and use the cleaning brush to scrub out any stuck on particles.

If the exterior of the vape is oily from a friend's hand or a recent vape session, use a damp cloth to wipe it down, but remember, this is an electronic vape, so keep it away from water. The mouthpiece can be soaked in any cleaning solution or even boiled in water to get clean.

The Verdict

All told, the E-CLIPSE dry herb vaporizer is a super portable vaporizer that packs a flavorful punch. It releases some seriously high-quality vapor and boasts an impressive battery life. The complete temperature control you have lends to a customized vape session, and it's perfect for sharing with friends who don’t have the same preferences as you do.

The only annoyance we noticed is that the charging cable is a bit short—which makes charging and vaping at the same time slightly less convenient—however, it charges via a micro USB, so if you don’t have an iPhone, you’re in luck! Other than that, this vape is a solid choice for vaping if you are looking for enhanced flavor and a pleasurable hit.

Smoking Versus Vaping: What's The Difference?

Did you know that smoking an unfiltered joint can deposit more tar in the lungs than an equal amount of tobacco? Vapes are able to work around this risk by gently heating cannabis to a point where the active compounds are released without creating smoke. Vapes hit temperatures above the boiling point of THC but below the combustion point of the plant.

The result? You get the compounds you want by avoiding the toxic products found in traditional smoke. Vaporizing heats your dry herbs and converts them into water vapor rather than smoke, avoiding the problems caused by combustion.

As mentioned above, convection vapes pass warmth through dry herb, while combustion brings the heating element into direct contact with it. Combustion is essentially smoking, and whenever you bring a flame to your cannabis, your lighter is delivering heat around 3,578 degrees Fahrenheit! Temperatures for smoking can reach around 1652 degrees during a puff and fall to about 752 degrees between puffs.

As you can imagine, this is tough on the lungs. But what you might not have known is that when you smoke cannabis, you’re getting a lot more than a high, you’re getting a lot of problems. Problems directly caused by combustive smoking include emphysema, congestive heart disease, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, acute myeloid leukemia, stroke, damaged blood clots and blood vessels, birth defects, reduced fertility and chronic bronchitis.

Research on dry herb vaping states that vaping produces fewer carcinogenic compounds than smoking cannabis because it is heating the product, not combusting it. Don’t get us wrong—cannabis smoke is less toxic than cigarette smoke—but inhalation of any combustion product is less than desirable.

Smoke of any type—nicotine or cannabis, contains particulates and gases that can irritate the lungs and create respiratory problems. In fact, when cannabis is burned, over 100 toxins are released.

Of course, the lack of smoke smell is also a definite plus. Some dry herb vapes like an E-CLIPSE can disappear in a big enough hand, and on top of that, the vapor produced by convection vapes is far less intrusive then smoke. Vapor, especially at low temperatures can be barely visible, and it dissipates quickly. In addition, with convection vaporizers, you will enjoy a better, more pure taste of the herbs.

If you are new to the world of cannabis, you may also elect to use a convection vape, because vapor can be inhaled in short puffs rather than deep breaths. And the fact that you do not have to light up your product when you are ready to enjoy it lends to discreteness.

A surprising benefit of vaping is that it can improve your relationships with others. You can vape comfortably in groups without having to worry about offending non-smokers, and vaping also removes the harms of secondhand smoking.

Finally, although the jury is still technically out on this, many cannabis fans will tell you the high you experience is different. Vapers have reported a euphoric, cerebral feeling, with experiences of peace and inner relaxation because of the clean high. Combustive smoking, on the other hand, can produce lethargy, or even paranoia. So, you're better of with an E-CLIPSE if you're new to cannabis.
