The real-life lives of pot advocates, influences, growers, users, advocacy and more.
Hippie Lifestyle Illusion
You are a hippie. Think about it—what are hippies? People with beards and long hair who enjoy doing drugs, listening to music, and rejecting conventional values. Everyone’s experienced that before, haven’t they? Most of us have experimented with our hairstyle or facial hair and have taken a puff of pot here or there. As for “rejecting conventional values,” that sounds like today’s average young adult at some point or another.
Buying and Selling Ganja
The man was dressed from head to toe in Christian Dior and jewelry. Like Joe Namath, he used Brut hair spray, skin conditioner, cologne, deodorant, and powder. He knocked on the door and was asked to come in. The Rasta beckoned him to the candle-lit table and directed him to sit down. The man was very nervous; he had never met a Rastaman before.
My Enemy, My Brother
The Rasta had just finished rolling up a bundle full of spliffs when he heard the sound of horses approaching. It was surely the drug-enforcement agents he had sold his last load of ganja to. They had probably discovered that the sacks the ganja was sorted in had sprung leaks, and all the ganja had fallen out. Many brethren along the way scooped up the herb as it poured out of the defective bags, and the agents were now stuck with no evidence and no money. The Rasta did not run, but confronted them with dignity.
Weed in Rastafarianism
Any true Rastafarian will tell you that it is absolutely necessary to meditate every time you smoke the herb. They always wish the herb to be used respectfully, in keeping with its inherent ability to spiritualize the state of mind. Violent or negative tendencies are exorcized by the conscious, careful smoking of the herb. A gentle overview is the aim of the smoker—cooling out.

Marijuana Moments Throughout History
Religion and history are full of miraculous stories and larger than life characters. From Jesus to Christopher Columbus, the burning bush to the Garden of Eden, we are taught that these people and stories are the righteous among us- they are our examples and our best case scenarios. But what they also share, is a rich history of marijuana moments. That’s right. Recent science, biblical scholarship, and historical evidence prove time and again that many of our favorite biblical stories and historical characters grew and smoked marijuana. It was included in holy rituals and everyday necessities that you definitely didn’t learn about in history class.
Jacob FrommerPublished 8 years ago in PotentMan in the Mountain
The Rasta kissed his wife and children good-bye and started walking up the mountain path. After several hours, he came to a cavern and slid down the rope hanging over the side. About 30 feet down was the entrance to a cave. He swung in and walked toward a light about 100 feet ahead. Hearing the bubbling sound of a chalice, he followed the sound to its source and found the most ancient-looking Rasta he ever saw, drawing on a huge water pipe. The smell of the ganja was the strongest, sweetest aroma he had ever had the pleasure of inhaling.

The ad, or ones very similar, had appeared in Boston’s Real Paper and Phoenix for almost four years. Intrigued, needing money, hating work, in between college and the future, and with the encouragement of some friends tired of my freeloading, I made an appointment at McClean Hospital in the suburb of Belmont. I answered the ad.
Weed Yoga
Too long have yogis stood in the alley behind the studio and had a quick toke before class begins. Edibles, in moderation, can contribute to a really great spiritual session. But imagine a world where you roll up to your yoga studio with your bottle of water, yoga mat, and a joint. This fantasy is a reality for yogis in California who visit yoga studios, such as Ganja Yoga in San Francisco or 420 Remedy Yoga in Glendale. Normally, consuming cannabis signals the brain to release more dopamine and put you in a happier place. When this is combined with yoga, it helps you heighten your spiritual consciousness in a way that could not be reached otherwise. There is already yoga for wine, chocolate and dog lovers, so it’s about time there was yoga for marijuana. This practice of pairing weed and yoga is not new, however.

It’s nice to have a ring to rely on, when you can’t figure out what mood you are in. The mood ring, a fascinating crystal when worn as a set in a ring, changes colors as it responds to your feelings and moods. These colors range from onyx or midnight black, through amber red, topaz yellow, jade green, and lapis blue to a brilliant sapphire or even violet blue. The secret of the stone's changeability is a chemically treated temperature-sensitive crystal bonded to quartz which responds to body heat.
Wendy WeedlerPublished 8 years ago in PotentMarijuana in the 80s
In past decades, little was known about marijuana. Those in charge believed the mysterious grass was dangerous and its effects were strictly harmful on the human body. Back in the 80s, there was a case of an honors high school student from Chicago. Three years later he was a twenty-one-year-old dropout wandering around the country. He was later committed to a sanitarium—a shell of what he once was, unable to function in the world outside his hospital window.
History of the Hippie
Long hair going down to the middle of his back, faded patched pants, beads and a psychedelic smile, he walked down the back roads of history, playing Sgt. Peppers Lonely Heart’s Club songs on a handmade wooden flute. He shunned dollars and material possessions, preferring flowers. He would often be seen hitchhiking and would always return your peace sign. He believed in free love, marijuana (which he held a religious sacrament) and peace on earth. He tasted of religious philosophies from eclectic Christianity to Mahayana Buddhism to the League for Spiritual Discovery. He was loved by children, hated by rednecks, featured in Hollywood films, such as Easy Rider, Godspell, The Big Lebowski, Zabriskie Pi. He became a familiar figure on the American Scene. And then quite suddenly, Jay Hippie, Esq., bright-eyed son of Joe Crewcut, disappeared.
