The most beautiful places to get high vary as much as Earth does. You don’t just need good views. The experience can be enhanced by the vibe of the place. There’s also no accounting for taste. Some people get high and appreciate a calming, soothing landscape. Some people love complex views or experiences that rival the creativity they feel. These locations are the perfect travel fantasies no matter what you like in your smoking experience. With something for every taste, these are the most beautiful places to get high.

Yosemite Valley, California

This large valley is the first on the list of most beautiful places to get high because you don’t have to be specific about it. Winter or summer, morning or night, Yosemite delivers with huge mountains and beautiful forest landscapes. You don’t even have to find a specific view, everywhere you turn your head, there’s something gorgeous to look at. Artists could spend days watching the sun crawl over these cliffs, and the large size of the valley means that you’ll be able to feel some remoteness and peace even though it’s a popular tourist destination.

Manhattan, New York City

The most beautiful places to get high aren’t limited to remote locations. In the right light, Manhattan can be a gorgeous place to light up. Settle yourself on the roof of a skyscraper in the early morning and watch the city that never sleeps get even more awake around you. Whether you prefer the hustle and bustle of the city streets below you or the slow awakening of lights as the skyscrapers get filled up for the day, Manhattan can provide it. With the skylines of various other boroughs in the background, the Manhattan view can be as beautiful as a mountain range.

 San Juan Mountains, Colorado

If it seems unfair that the United States has dominated this world wide list so far, don’t despair: the list gets more diverse from here. Since the US spans an entire continent, with more than three thousand miles from coast to coast, it’s natural that more than a few spectacularly beautiful sights make this list.

For our last US stop, leaving the San Juan mountains of Colorado off this list would simply be unpardonable. This area blends a mix of sensory experiences. For those who like a lot of stimulation, the sudden appearance of vibrant, beautiful colors dominates. For those who prefer to take their time once they’re high, the sandstone rocks and red sand provide beautiful, intricate designs that aren’t too overwhelming. Traveling a short distance can bring you to a very different view, making the San Juan mountains perfect for ramblers.

Barrientos Island, Antarctica

Barrientos Island is a bit of a commute (all the way down in Antarctica), but it can’t be left off a list like this. The unusual landscape already paints an interesting picture. The harsh sea outlines contrasted with the vibrant mosses create a bit of a surrealist touch. Barrientos Island serves as a last outpost of habitable weather outside of the wasteland of mainland Antarctica. This is the type of shoreline to spark creativity and excitement. Antarctica has sparked imaginations as great as H.P. Lovecraft and Jules Verne, and maybe yours if you can get down to this beautiful location.

Northern Greenland

Anywhere north in Greenland will give you a great view of the Aurora Borealis, or the Northern Lights. These shifting, vibrant, green lights are caused by energy from the sun interacting with the Earth’s atmosphere. Sitting out in a remote location and watching the lights play across the sky lets you see the energy of the universe overhead. While this radiation is interacting with our planet all the time, only the special conditions of the northern nights enable us to see it. Greenland has some of the strongest Aurora Borealis displays in the world. Coupled with the relatively small population and many other great views you can catch in the daylight, Greenland is a great destination for anyone who wants to feel at home in the universe. You can enjoy the northern lights from inside a cozy cabin through a glass ceiling, or make it a camping trip—as long as you bring enough fuel for the campfire.

Liechtenstein

Liechtenstein makes this list because it packages a lot of the appeal of Switzerland into something even more interesting. Liechtenstein as a whole country is only 25km long, and is basically a series of interconnected villages between craggy, Alps peaks. While you’d want to use caution actually traveling between the villages of Liechtenstein while high, many people regularly travel the entire length of the country on foot.

Getting high in Liechtenstein beats out many Swiss destinations because of the charm and character of the little country. You can get the same gorgeous views (it’s literally across the Rhine from Swiss villages) with added quirk. More people come to Liechtenstein to work than to live. It’s been accidentally invaded by the Swiss three times, and has accepted an apology for these intrusions. It’s beautiful to the extreme: the Alps have long been known for their gorgeousness, and the mist, snow, and stone make for beautiful contrasts. On top of all that, the Liechtenstein vibe is mellow, quirky, and independent—perfect for a stop on your smoking vacation.

Santorini, Greece

Santorini is one of the most beautiful places to get high, and its amenities can’t be beat. The rich blue ocean next to the predominantly white buildings makes for a gorgeous view whether you’re at the top of the island or down by the water. Start your adventure up at the top of the island and feel the wind move. If you get too hot, follow the paths down to the beach. The water is welcoming, warm, and very clear. You can doze on the sand or go wading to cool off. You can enjoy delicious Greek food once you’ve worked up an appetite on the beach.

Eidsvoll, Norway

If you’ve ever wondered where fairy tales come from, Eidsvoll is essentially it. This gorgeous, misty wood is home to ancient trees and fresh springs of water. This forest has a very distinct vibe, from the height of the old pines to the plethora of animals that live within it. While some places like the San Juan Mountains can make you feel like the last person on Earth (in a peaceful way), Eidsvoll is a place to fire your imagination and make you feel like you’re not alone. Let your imagination run wild, and live as a hero in your own fairytale for a few hours as you take your time along Eidsvoll’s old pathways. It’s also a great place for anyone who likes to feel connected to the past—it’s easy to believe that Eidsvoll hasn’t changed in hundreds of years.

The Bahamas

If you’ve ever wanted to live out your “Oh no, I’m trapped on a desert island with all this pot” dreams, go to the Bahamas. There are islands large and small, and plenty of places where you can settle down by the water and play out your pirate-life-for-me fantasies. The weather is typically pretty great, with sunshine giving way to fairly frequent showers. These clouds provide even more beauty to this tropical area. The islands are pretty flat, making the horizon seem huge and giving you plenty of opportunity to watch the skies. You can watch the rain fall on neighboring islands while relaxing in the sun. If rain showers aren’t your thing, don’t worry: you can stay dry and lit up by waiting for an hour or less inside. The near daily showers don’t last long as long as you go in the dry season.

Bora Bora, French Polynesia

Whether you’re a fan for the excellent French Polynesia cuisine, the great atmosphere, or the relaxed, beautiful vibe, Bora Bora rounds out the list of the most beautiful places to get high. Bora Bora is a lush, rich environment that contrasts with the starkness of some other landscapes. If you don’t enjoy a feeling of isolation this is the place for you. While Bora Bora’s not crowded, the beauty is respectfully enhanced by the residents and others. The landscape is one of gentle contrasts. The sea versus the islands, which are occasionally mountainous, and the mountains contrast with the wide sky and powerful weather systems that go through. Bora Bora is a great place to go to get high, relax, and feel like you’ve gotten away from it all without actually leaving comfort behind.

The vibrancy of the world is clearly seen through smoke. Whether you like the mellow sandstone of the San Juan Mountains or you’re mentally packing your bags for Bora Bora, these landscapes evoke moods and entertainments for getting high that lift them above everywhere else on earth. These are the most beautiful places to get high.
