Is it worth using sublingual CBD Spray?

There are so many ways to take CBD, but what is the most efficient?

In recent years, the range of CBD products on the market has exploded. Although CBD oil is still one of the most popular options, more convenient products like CBD spray is certainly growing in popularity. Different products are designed for different needs and each has several unique advantages and disadvantages.

Bio-availability is the amount and speed with which a drug reaches the place where it is supposed to work; the greater the bio-availability of a substance, the more pronounced the effect will be. As there are multiple ways to take CBD, there are also varying bio-availability levels per method.

In CBD, the goal is usually to get as many cannabinoids as possible into the bloodstream. Without overwhelming you with studies, this leaves vaping or sublingual as the more efficient way to take it.

CBD under your tongue

Sublingual ingestion, meaning underneath your tongue, is effective and the effects are very rapid. It is especially suitable for users who want to feel the immediate effect. To do this, give it a few sprays under the tongue and do not swallow for about 60 seconds. The very thin membrane under the tongue allows the substance to enter the bloodstream very quickly. The active ingredient does not have to migrate through the entire digestive system.

Swallowing sprays, oils or other edibles directly will toss it directly into your stomach, where it will face the complexities of your digestive system. Just the stomach acid, bile, and enzymes are enough to severely degrade your CBD dose that you are essentially flushing money down the toilet.

Usually between 30 minutes to 5 hours, your blood levels of CBD should peak for a quick yet long-lasting effect. This can even rival the quick effect of vaping or smoking but without the adverse health risks.

Taking your sublingual doses of CBD should be around the time you eat, as your blood flow will be increased in your mouth, improving the rate of absorption.

How does it compare to vaping or smoking?

Vaping CBD skyrockets your blood levels like no other method, but that’s not always desired for CBD users. Once you get the CBD into your system, it is quickly processed out, and you would need another hit to feel relief.

Sublingual CBD would at least stay in your blood for multiple hours, prolonging its effects to a large portion of your day. If you were looking to treat chronic conditions, this would be the better route.

Let’s also not discount the fact the oxidative damage that comes from smoking, in which any oral method would not have. If you are taking CBD for its anti-oxidative effect, it would be rather counter-intuitive.

What is a typical sublingual dose of CBD?

It’s difficult to give a generic answer on how much you should take. Considering the bio-availability of sublingual doses is higher than other methods, people who are sensitive to CBD, in general, should take a conservative approach.

Starting with doses under 30mg per day would be a good start, and you can separate these doses throughout the day. Adjusting how you react will allow you to move up in dose if at all desired.

Final Thoughts

Sublingual administration is the best overall means of taking CBD, no matter what form it’s in. Bypassing your gut is the main advantage to this method to assure the absorption rate is optimal, and it’s quite easy to do. If you’re you are looking for a convenient means of taking your daily dose, a bottle of CBD spray may be just what you need.
