You're about to engage in one of the best science experiments ever. This step-by-step guide to how to make cannabis coconut oil will show you how simple and fun the conversion process can be. Within a few hours, you will have one of the most versatile weed infusions in your refrigerator.

Why Coconut Oil Works Best

Of all of the oils you could choose, coconut oil is the best because it has high saturated fat content. This is important to how potent your final product will be. Coconut oil's saturated fats allow for more absorption of things like THC and cannabinoids—the stuff that gets you high. Baking edibles with cannabis coconut oil, for example, would have you feeling better than if you used a different oil for infusion.

What You Need

Think of this as a normal, everyday cooking recipe. Before you get started, you'll need certain ingredients, items, and measurements. The only difference is instead of teaching you how to make a soufflé, we're teaching you how to make cannabis coconut oil.

However much cannabis coconut oil you want to make, you always want to make sure the ratio of cannabis to coconut oil is one to one. For the purposes of this article, let's say you'll need one cup of each. You will also need a strainer, a grinder, a cooking thermometer, and some kind of hardware to cook with (i.e. crock pot, slow cooker, saucepan, etc.).

Heat and Grind

Heat your coconut oil to approximately 220 degrees Fahrenheit. Once your coconut oil reaches this temperature, adjust the heat so as to maintain that temperature. While the oil heats up, grind your weed into a decently fine powder; not too fine, or you won't be able to strain it properly.

When you know your oil is maintaining a steady temperature of 220 degrees, add your ground cannabis into the mixture. Stir.

Stick to the Golden Rule

No, we're not referring to the one about being nice to people (though you should do that, too). We're talking about the rule that you must keep your compound heated at 220 degrees Fahrenheit. Deviation in temperature or boiling your mixture at a higher temperature will cause unwanted deviations in how to make cannabis coconut oil.

Stir and Strain

You're going to let this mixture cook for two or three hours, or until all of the bubbles are gone. However, you do need to stir and strain intermittently.

After about an hour or so, pour the mixture into a bowl through a strainer to get all of the cannabis clusters out. (Remember, by the end all you want is oil.) You can use a cheesecloth on top of your strainer as well, so that when you strain the liquid you can press down on the cloth to get as much out of it as possible.

Storing Your Cannabis Coconut Oil

When you have finished making cannabis oil, take it out of your crock pot or slow cooker and put it in a regular dish or container. It will be a brownish color. But strangely, when you store it in the refrigerator, it will change back into a light green color and will re-solidify a bit. Don't freak out—this is what it's supposed to look like.

This cannabis infused coconut oil will be good to use for a couple of months, so you don't have to worry about using it quickly so it doesn't spoil. Another thing to keep in mind is that if you have children, you may want to put your oil on a shelf in the refrigerator that he or she can't reach.

How to Use Consume Cannabis Oil

You can use cannabis infused coconut oil in a nearly endless amount of recipes. Learn how to make cannabis coconut oil brownies, potatoes, tea, cake, guacamole—there is virtually no limit to how you can consume cannabis coconut oil.

Another thing you can do is put the oil into pill capsules for easy and discreet transportation. You can also use it not for eating, but as a topical cream or mask.

Health Benefits of Cannabis Infused Coconut Oil

As we mentioned earlier, making cannabis oil isn't just another way to get high. Rather, it actually has many significant health benefits. If you use it topically, it can help mend dry skin, inflammation, and burns. It can be used medically to reduce pain and anxiety, of course, but you can also consume cannabis coconut oil to promote stomach and heart health.

Some people get a better idea of a recipe when they see what each step is supposed to look like. This succinct, informative video on how to make cannabis coconut oil will help guide you through our instructions if you begin to doubt your culinary prowess.
