Hemp is the Swiss Army knife of plants. It has as many uses as the human imagination can conjure up for it. For thousands of years, it has been used for everything—from a source of food to rope and even car parts. That’s right, car parts! Hemp is a true testimony to the versatility and ingenuity of Mother Nature.

Despite the many health and industrial uses for hemp, it is is still working off an undeserved stigma that it got from being marijuana’s cousin. The recent change in attitude towards cannabis has opened the door for hemp’s many benefits to be explored and enjoyed by the masses. Keep reading to see some of the many ways in which hemp can help you.

Hemp Seed Uses and Benefits

Usually, when you think of plant seeds, you only think of them as a means to grow more plants. Hemp seeds, however, have many health benefits.

Hemp seeds are full of arginine, which turns into nitric oxide in your body. Nitric oxide helps to improve blood flow by widening and relaxing blood vessels. Improved blood flow, of course, means lower blood pressure and a decreased risk of heart disease.

Hemp seeds are also a good source of fiber. Most Americans don’t get enough fiber, but fiber is essential to the body. Getting enough fiber helps the body in ways that can increase the length and quality of your life. Arthritis, diabetes, inflammation, and even certain cancers can be prevented by having enough fiber in your diet. You can increase your fiber intake by switching to hemp seed bread.

Hemp Oil and Benefits

Lately, CBD has been all the rave among those seeking more natural or holistic health solutions. CBD oil is the abbreviation for cannabidiol oil, and it is extracted from hemp. However, phytocannabinoid-rich hemp oil is even more potent. Even though it has been trending lately, it has been a stable medicinal extract to humankind for thousands of years.

CBD is just one cannabinoid, but phytocannabinoid-rich hemp oil has hundreds of cannabinoids in it, and CBD is one of them. Research shows that this cocktail of cannabinoids actually increases the potency of the CBD in it. This analogy will further explain the relationship: Vitamin D is to calcium what other cannabinoids are to CBD.

Phytocannabinoid-rich hemp is more potent than CBD oil because the oil is extracted from hemp flowers and stalks instead of the seeds. This oil can be used for certain types of cancer treatment, the treatment of chronic pain, and even for cognitive purposes.

The Future of Hemp

The 2018 Farm Bill has opened the floodgates for the business and health benefits of hemp to be enjoyed by all Americans. Due to this bill, hemp is no longer on the list of controlled substances This means the future is bright for both hemp farmers and consumers. Because of this bill, the number of hemp farms in Colorado and other states that have championed cannabis is expected to grow enormously.

Hemp legalization will be a huge boon to natural health enthusiasts, business people, and farmers alike. Experts say that legalizing the plant could return it to cash crop status rather than the cultic status that it has enjoyed for the past few decades.

Only time will tell, but there are telltale signs that hemp could be the next oil boom. Because of its association with pot—and pot’s association with cool—hemp could foreseeably become the entrepreneurial go-to route of millennials. Also, America’s increased interest in natural health and environmentally safe products further raise optimism in the future of this once castigated plant. Just like the legendary fictional boxer Rocky, this plant has taken a beating and come back strong!
