Healthiest Ways to Smoke Weed

I love weed. Smoking a delicious blunt of Cannabis Cup ganja is my idea of a great beginning to a night out. I love the sweet taste it gives, the sudden onset of mellow vibes, and the many, many nights at Taco Bell all those joints have sparked.

Unfortunately, I also happen to be well-aware of the fact that smoking anything can have some negative health effects. While it's not as bad as smoking cigarettes or popping pills like a Pez dispenser, smoking weed can still irritate lungs. (It is smoke, after all.)

Being the health conscious individual I am, I try to veer on the safer side of marijuana capers. But, how exactly do you do that? According to a number of medical experts, the best way is to enjoy your pot without actually rolling up a joint...

Before We Get Into The Best Ways To Smoke It...

It's important to talk about quality. Having been a pothead in some pretty shady neighborhoods and having had some pretty sketchy dealers, I can tell you that the quality of the weed you get makes a huge difference in your overall health.

Bad weed will taste bad and make you have a coughing fit. Good weed will not, and will also get you higher. If you have the misfortune of smoking a joint that is laced with something else, you may end up in the hospital or worse.

Seriously, you need to find a dealer that you trust. I can't stress how important that is enough.

Use A Bong, Hookah, Or Water Pipe.

Let's say that you don't have the money for a vape kit, or that you really just don't want to be one of those people who vapes. That's okay. There are other ways to enjoy a smoke - and one of them is actually pretty common.

Using a bong can help reduce the amount of tar and carcinogens you inhale, and also can help clear out impurities in the pot smoke. As a result, you get a cleaner, better burn.

If you want to try to improve upon the design for a healthier smoke, experts suggested adding ice to the water in the pipe. Ice may be able to reduce the amount of tar your lungs catch, and also help cool down the smoke. As a result, you can expect less lung irritation and a lot less coughing fits.

Butane Hash Oil (BHO) and other concentrated goodies can be a healthy-ish option, as long as you take a couple of precautions. Experts suggested using ice with a water based rig to cool down the smoke, since torched oil can be way hotter than a typical joint.

It's also worth noting that there are some folks out there who are sensitive to Butane. So, while it might be okay for some, chemical-sensitive people might not really see this as one of the healthiest ways to smoke weed. If you get headaches, then by all means, avoid it and look for a better option.

Make Some Magic Brownies!

The folks over at Bustle had a good idea. Why not skip the smoke and tar and burning lung sensation altogether by just adding the pot to a delicious meal? While chocolate brownies with a little bit of hash oil might not be the healthiest option, there are other ways to incorporate weed into your cooking.

Perhaps you should try some bread with cannabutter? Or, rather, some Seriously Smokin' Mac and Cheese? As many of you may already know, eating cannabis definitely will give you a better high than a typical smoke will.

If You Must Roll A Blunt...

Herb actually delved into the science of smoking, and pointed out something pretty gnarly. In order for the pot leaves to burn in a joint, they have to be exposed to a direct flame - and that flame burns at around 3,590.6 degrees Fahrenheit.

When you're inhaling that smoke, you're inhaling ashes that literally were at that temperature only seconds before. It's that ashy gunk that you're inhaling that causes the tar buildup that makes you cough. Their suggestion? If you must roll one up, try to opt for organic papers or grab a screen for your pipe.
