Your Colour Grows

Writing & Photography by KM

The world does not always begin in blends of black and white,

But as I age, the colours fade, they merge to shades of grey.

The days and nights grow into weeks, until the years cannot differentiate.

Then the grey wash, a forceful comfort, helps accept the mediocre.

And just when I go sit to calm, I’m pinched by a passing whisper.

You sparked my life through slow and subtle ways of contribution,

A single bud inside the muted cherry blossom flowers

Out of reach against the sky, you grew in quiet and gradually.

Unnoticed on my daily walk from bud grew a slow blossom

Opening one day, I glimpse above my selfish eye-line,

Exposing a blinding vibrance; and like contagion spreads the colour.

So quick I’m pushed off my feet; and just before I feel the ground hit

I’m wisped around into a flip!

A world full of electric colour.
