You See The Spirit World

Can you really or is it all a lie

You See The Spirit World

You say you see them, like others see rain,

Casual, passing, nothing worth fearing,

But your eyes hold too much distance,

As if this world is not enough to keep you.

You pause mid sentence, listening elsewhere,

Your head tilts to voices I cannot reach,

And I stand there, half living, half doubting,

Wondering who stands closer to you, me, or them.

Do they crowd the doorways when night settles in,

Do they brush past you like cold smoke, unseen,

Do they whisper names that no longer belong here,

Do they follow you home, or were they always there.

You smile sometimes at nothing, at air, at silence,

And it chills me more than any scream could,

Because it is gentle, familiar, like greeting someone,

Who should not exist in this breathing world.

Tell me, when you sleep, do they lean close,

Do they press their stories into your dreams,

Do they ask you to remember what we have buried,

Do they beg you not to forget their unfinished lives.

You say you see the spirit world, clear as daylight,

But daylight does not reach where you are looking,

And I fear one day you will turn to me and ask,

Why I cannot see what is already reaching for us both.

Just maybe I do not want this not yet anyway. ♥️
