You May Not Understand

A poem about OCD

Let me tell you a story

You may not understand,

Naked to the human eye

And only whispered about.

If your secret gets out

Others will look at you weirdly,

And they will laugh at what you do

But they don’t understand why you do what you do.

Wake up at 4 am

Brush your teeth before your hair,

And you can only eat the same three meals

Or else beware.

If you don’t your hands will shake

The walls will crush you in,

You’ll feel like a bird without wings

A balloon without its air.

No one can help you now

You are stuck inside your head,

But continue on normally

As nobody really cares.

It’s impossible to not hate yourself

As you watch others live like birds,

While you yourself are stuck

In this never-ending cycle of something called your life.

I’m tired of feeling trapped

Being treated like a villain,

Maybe if they understood

Things would be different.

I hope to soar above the clouds

Dance freely in the rain,

Not worrying about the time

Or things that cause delay.

Maybe one-day things will be different

Maybe I won’t always feel this way,

But right now I need to focus

On conquering each day.
