You gotta admit, we all love this

You know you do, even if you don't want to

I'm tired. I'm groggy. I'm irritated.

The work day has drained me. Fatigued from being stimulated.

My eyelids grow heavy, I start to nod my head.

"Well, that's it for me. Time to go to bed."

A place of warmth and comfort. A place to feel secure.

Its softness and acceptance will always be a lure.

Like a siren's voice it calls me. To drift off to sleep.

I count as I race them. I'm chasing after sheep.

I go to bed and lay my head on a pillow, soft.

Sleep's ahead, I feel the spread, I've now gone aloft.

If I don't sleep, the piper plays, and I will pay its cost.

Neural scrubbing of my brain, my wires do get washed.

In sleep, I dream. What do they mean? My brain seems to teem.

Like a stream, if you are keen, things aren't as they seem.

Reality's not as it is, it breaks apart at the seams.

Waking up can be rude, like a glaring gleam.

Sleep, sleep, sleep, it's something we all need.

A constant horse we ride, of course, sleep is our trusty steed.

Sleep, sleep, sleep, resting fuel for your body, and for your mind to feed.

Sleep, sleep, sleep, give it to yourself, it's a righteous deed.

The bed, the covers, the layers of gentle sheets.

It's hot. It's cool. What to do about the heat?

A nice warm bed, fresh linen spread, greatest of the treats.

Many others rest their heads, a sleeping army fleet.

The bed, the rest, a true made comfort place.

I grab my pillow, I bring it close, I nuzzle with my face.

Unconsciousness I fall, I do not stall, off into the race.

The world around me seems to fall, I am now just lost in space.

Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say.

Whoops, wrong contest. I'm sorry to lead you astray.

Would you mind helping me please? Like David, I'm floating away.

Uh oh, now I'm being pulled down into earth. I guess I better pray.

I'm falling through the sky. Hey, I think I see my roof?

Unsplash doesn't have enough pictures, sorry I can't show you some proof.

Hey, there's the neighbor's cat. There goes by the floof.

Is that me in my bed? I think I'm about to land. Poof!

My eyes shoot open, and all too wide.

I'm thankful that I haven't died.

My senses return like a rising tide.

To check my phone, I roll over to one side.

I have enough time to get back to sleep, so I go hit snooze.

A lack of sleep is worse than a hangover, still put down the booze.

I start to drift back to sleep again, as soon as I feel the cues.

I feel a slight bobbing wave. It feels like I'm on a cruise.

I'm back off to the ship that's in the land of dreams.

We're floating up a river. Yes, we're going up a stream.

The crew is put together, a well organized team.

Nothing makes them scared. Not even monsters that would scream.

The boat starts to rock.

I wake up again, and proceed to check the clock.

I'm refreshed. I'm awake. That chunk of sleep was a solid block.

I wait to warm up a bit, as the cold air is still a bit of a shock.

Pajamas, underwear, or nothing at all. How do you get dressed?

When it comes to bed, we all plan to leave a bit less stressed.

The bed, it makes a great place in a home, a place in the nest.

Now, let us all go to bed to get what we need, some well deserved rest.
