Like everything
You get used to it
You get used not being able to call them to tell them something
So you stop reaching for your phone
You get used to holidays being different
and sometimes you even celebrate them alone
You get used to not giving and receiving birthday wishes
Social’s notifications still saying you missed it
You get used to the hole in your life
but no one but them can fill it
It’s a void you now base your life around so you don’t fall in it
At times you’ll trip but your tribe will pick you back up with tissues
It’ll never end, and honestly never lessen
People say it gets easier, but that’s when you start forgetting
There’s always distractions
New interactions
But they will never have the same passion you had with them
No replacements
It’s not that you lack compassion
It’s just that you can’t play pretend
No bonds the same
People say you’re strong
It’s strange
Because you’re not
You’re just used to it
And that’s all that you’ve got.
