You Don't See Me

But I see you

You don’t see me,

But I see you.

I’ve been wondering what it would be like

If you noticed me,

To hold your hand

To touch you

And to have you touch me.

*

I hear you

But you don’t hear me.

I enjoy your playful banter with friends.

I’ve been wondering what it would be like

To talk with you

And have you talk with me.

*

I know you

But you don’t know me.

When you laugh, your face gets red.

When you concentrate, you squint your eyes.

Your favorite ice cream is rocky road.

You drink your coffee black.

I’ve been wondering what it would be like

If you knew about me too.

*

I love you

The first time I saw you, you stole my heart.

But you don’t love me back.

I’ve been wondering what it would be like

To be together,

Sharing our thoughts and our bodies.

I will never know,

Because you don’t see me.
