You are now entering October

You will never want to leave

I was driving on a country road many years ago

When I spotted a sign for a town called October

It was five miles away

I decided to check it out

When I saw the town sign

I saw brilliant red, orange and brown leaves

Draping over it from the trees above

I saw houses lined up with Jack o lanterns too

It immediately felt cooler

I stopped at a quaint shop to buy a sweater

Inside they had a fire going in an old fireplace

I saw they sold coffee so I bought a pumpkin spice latte

Bookshelves lined with Anne Rice, Stephen King and other

Horror greats surrounded me

I sat down in a plush, antique chair

I put on my new sweater, grabbed a book and my latte

And prepared to indulge

Suddenly a knock came to the shop door

Children dressed in costumes yelling, "Trick or Treat!"

I had found the town of October on Halloween

I noticed it had become dark outside

And the wind had picked up

Sending fallen leaves into a spiral like dance

I decided to leave my comfortable spot

To explore more of the town

The street lights glowed

Children and adults in costumes roamed

A black cat screeched, making my heart jump

I sensed the presence of something unseen

Felt cold fingers on me

Ghostly apparitions surrounded me

They whispered, "you cannot leave now, you are home."

I panicked and ran back to the shop

It was dark inside

No fire

No people

I ran to my car and drove out of October

Every Halloween I return

To the same thing

Always I escape

But the ghostly voices were right

October is my home
