Yesterday’s News
fThey print it, fold it, leave it,
upon the step to fade.
Yesterday’s news forgotten,
by morning’s newer grief.
The ink runs in the rain,
and blurs the words away.
What once was important,
is cast aside with ease.
I see the faces printed,
their stories cold and flat.
Lives reduced to columns,
and thrown into the bin.
Yesterday’s news lies silent,
its voice already gone.
No one stops to listen,
for tomorrow speaks instead.
We live as though unending,
yet time erases fast.
What matters in the moment,
is soon a shadow past.
I fold the paper slowly,
and place it on the fire.
The words become mere smoke,
that vanishes in air.
Yesterday’s news is warning,
that nothing stays for long.
The world is always turning,
its memory brief and faint.
So let me not be paper,
discarded and unread.
But ink upon the spirit,
that time cannot erase.
