An ode to before

Who’s that creeping on my rear end? Pulling me back?

I can feel the dreadful tug when it pulls at my back.

I walk heavy but it tip toes silently walking behind me.

I’m loud but I silently hope it doesn’t find me.

The deafening silence doesn’t belong to a stranger.

This outlander of the unknown is certainly homegrown.

I’ve known this thing for years. It’s history brings me to tears.

I try to run from it but all of my brokenness comes from it.

May the strength in my legs take me away to a better day.

Let freedom spring me free from this follower stalking me called yesterday.
