No one's favorite color

Yellow isn't anyone's favorite color

the cheer miser says with a sneer

her love means everything to me

but I respectfully disagree

and stifle words in a poem instead.

Yellow is the color of solitude

waking up before household dawn

reveling in the quiet yellow orange

hue overpowering the horizon

before the sun bows behind clouds.

Yellow is the color of joy

our son’s boisterous young voice cries out

how beautiful!

a single strand of clear Christmas lights,

a plastic raincoat,

a handful of M&M's, mostly yellow.

Yellow is the color of new

fluff downy feathers

sprucing up wide eyed goslings

daffodils blitzing

the dreary greys and browns of spring.

Yellow is the color of old

walking cane resting on park bench

shaky wrinkled hand

digging corn to feed his friends.

Yellow is the color of life

no one may claim as their favorite

it acts without permission

may its silent gold riches

color your day without fanfare.
