Xy's Stinky War

If the Troglodytes are swarming, run quick to the Kingdom of Xy

Come gather around, and I’ll warn you.

Of deeds that Troglodytes might try.

A disgusting race of Creatures,

that live in the old mines of Xy.

These stinky reptiles do possess,

a primitive form of a Mind

Human beings they do detest.

They want to steal stuff all the time.

Caravans, they did attack.

Getting supplies became quite tuff.

When nightly raids became a fact,

the Kingdom of Xy had enough!

The King gathered up his forces,

he sent them into the mines.

Mercenaries and their horses,

the Troglodytes they went to find.

Captain Stryke was sent by the King,

he was in charge of the brigade.

But stubborn men did their own thing,

his position was a charade.

They would not listen when he tried,

to warn of impending danger.

“Many trogs are hidden inside.

on this my life, I would wager!”

The mines entrance was a river.

That led to a chamber so grand.

Inside the trogs did deliver,

a gruesome fight to every man.

The trogs smell was so repulsive,

that two-thirds of the men fell sick.

When they turned from this place to leave,

they were subject to a cruel trick.

From every hole, the trogs seemed to spring.

Their attack was quite a surprise.

An obsidian ax they had to swing.

They would smack you between your eyes.

Half the men were killed very fast,

that left the rest of them so stunned.

The battle, it did not long last,

when from the fight, the rest did run.

When they made it back to Xy,

a woeful tale they had to tell.

Another attempt they would try,

to the place the Troglodytes dwelled.

The King's wrath the men did incur,

when he found they did not listen.

By those dead, he was so disturbed,

he threw some men into prison.

This time they would be prepared more,

for the smelly creatures attack.

They would have quite the fight in store,

their next victory, a forgone fact.

They had some special helmets made.

That would remove the icky smell.

And they had a visual aid,

that helped them see in the dark well.

The King had in charge his own men,

of the force that was to go to fight

A better brigade he would send,

so now the Trogs would feel their might.

The men waited outside the mine,

for the troglodytes to come out.

The men’s attack was carefully timed,

to ensure that they’d win the bout.

When the trogs were between two groups,

the men let out a great war yell.

The trogs were smashed between the troops,

from all the men’s swords, the trogs fell.

Three score troglodytes the men hacked.

Quite large this number seemed to be.

But female trogs, this group lacked.

It would take weeks to set the mine free.

When into the mine the men went,

more trogs they found by the river.

The men felt they were heaven-sent,

a good fight they would deliver.

The fight was hard because the trog’s

Trick skin could blend in with the walls.

Helmets removed the hidden fog,

that insured each vile nest would fall.

From the first nest, the men did find,

a great shield from the treasure load.

Captain Stryke said, “This is mine.”

The men took their half in gold.

From the first level of the mine,

four nests of trogs the men wiped clean

The fight seemed to be going fine,

until the biggest trogs, they’d seen

Old Croakus was the lead trog's name.

He was a trog that was most bad.

He loved to cause humans great pain.

He wanted everything that they had.

Down a passage to a great room,

the men were forced to take the fight.

A hard battle for the men loomed,

when too few could get to the site.

Zapper the Wizard, they called forth,

with him, he had a magic staff.

Those caught in the beam would morph,

into a chicken for a laugh.

Into chickens, Zapper turned some,

this made other trogs quite mad.

Old Croakus got quite gruesome,

he fought with everything he had.

Old Croakus cleaved a man in half,

the other men became quite scared.

From the battle, some men did dash,

at Old Croakus Zapper now stared.

With his staff, Zapper took a shot,

except the trog now dodged the beam.

Three more trogs in the back got caught,

they’re now chicken type of beings

Into the fight raced Captain Stryke,

his Lieutenants were at his side.

To Zapper, the trogs took the fight,

they wanted a piece of his hide.

From the trogs, Zapper took a hit.

He left the fight now that he was hurt.

Captain Stryke now did his best bit,

he’s at the ready and alert.

Old Croakus took a mighty swing.

Captain Stryke’s shield took a great hit.

The shield burst the evil thing,

The ax shattered into bits.

Captain Stryke took his turn to attack

With his sword, he hurt the lead trog.

Old Croakus tried to bite him back.

With a mouth that could chomp a log.

The snap Captain Stryke evaded.

He took a swing and he missed.

Old Croakus was not dissuaded,

a chance he could not dismiss.

His gaping maw took a great bite,

with his shield, Captain Stryke bashed him.

The trog was a pitiful sight.

He now sported a toothless grin.

Old Croakus grabbed at Captain Stryke.

He longed to crush him in his arms.

Captain Stryke’s shield ensured the fight,

would do him very little harm.

By now, a bunch of the brave men,

ensured the other trogs lie still.

From the mine, this nest had been cleansed.

This fight was a battle of wills.

The fight Old Croakus continued

This trog fought to the bitter end.

Since he could not change the venue,

There was no way that he could win.

Dead still, Old Croakus did lie.

The brigade of men won the fight.

No longer would he steal supplies.

No more would he sneak through the night.

This nest had a big treasure hoard,

magic armor, gems, jewels, and gold.

The men took half for their reward.

The rest went to the King’s abode.

It took six weeks to clear the mine.

There were trogs on every level.

Numerous vile nests they did find,

they wiped out the evil devils.

There were many gems in each nest,

and weapons both sharp and ridged.

Filled with gold, there were many chests,

the jewels they found were exquisite.

They found some shirts made of chain mail.

There were flasks of magic potions.

Stories of magic rings they tell,

and pearls that came from the oceans.

The king sends every other year,

a patrol to check out the mines.

Just some men to go and peer,

to make sure everything is fine.

Everyone should heed my warning.

When you travel in mountains high.

If the troglodytes are swarming,

run quick to the Kingdom of Xy
