Again and Again

Writers repeat themselves

We’re like broken record players

Skipping the groove

We can’t always remember

What we’ve said before

***

Writers repeat themselves

Again and again

Sometimes within the same work

Sometimes in separate pieces

To create a theme

For the reader to follow—

But do they know?

***

Writers repeat themselves

Louder and louder

Sometimes it’s the only way

To get our point across

In a world that has been polluted

By a cacophony of social media

Fake news and AI

To spread the truth

That we see

In our everyday lives

As we watch the world crumble around us

And become the dystopias

That we tried to warn about

***

Writers repeat themselves

Meekly, worthlessly

Because no one is listening

—Or so it would seem

But if just one reader sees

What we mean

And spreads that message

To their world

Then maybe

Just maybe

It was worth repeating

social commentary
