Wounds of the heart

From: Causa dolor cordis

By Mat BarnsleyPublished 2 years ago • 1 min read

I wish you'd hurt me with your sticks and stones,

This pain I feel tears me apart,

As time heals bruises and broken bones,

But rarely the wounds of a heart...

The scars of abuse can't be seen by the eye,

When it's my soul that carries the marks,

Betrayed and deceived, and happiness denied,

With your clever lies said right from the start.

I wish the memories of you would just fade away,

I have the excuses down to a fine art,

But deep down I know it's all lies that I say,

To forget that you've broken my heart...
