Would that I were no one but myself,

Not shaped by echoes on a dusty shelf.

No borrowed voice, no painted guise,

Just truth reflected in my own eyes.

Would that I could say what I want,

Screams in my heart—oh, they haunt.

My talent—ah, no way to flaunt,

Feels unrecognized, left to daunt.

Would that my light could pierce the night,

Unveiled, unchained, in boundless flight
