Worth

From far beyond our earthly sphere,

An alien visitor did once appear.

Eyes of wonder, curious and wide,

He wanted to know humanity’s drive.

So, I showed him coins of copper and gold,

Kept in the pockets of the young and the old.

"These discs," I said, "hold human worth,

A measure of value that defines us from birth."

The alien studied this gleaming treasure,

A concept he thought both strange and clever.

"Tell me more," he asked, so keen,

Wanting to grasp the essence of what this means.

I led him to a bustling street,

Where consumerism and desire meet.

People working and shopping as if it were a race.

Never without peace, this is our constant pace.

"See," I said, "how our minds are bound,

The economy is what makes our world go round.

We toil and strive from dawn to night,

For these monetary symbols, we'll even cheat and fight.”

The alien pondered this, his eyes intense,

As I explained how we're ruled by such pretense.

"We chase illusions," I went on to say,

"Thinking wealth will bring us a brighter day."

And with empathy, he turned his gaze,

To all the poor humans caught in their money craze.

"Is there no path," the alien inquired,

"To break these chains that keep them so uninspired?”

I smiled sadly, my heart laid bare,

"Awakening minds is something very rare.

But perhaps, with time and grace,

We can one day free ourselves from this economic rat race.”

The alien nodded, understanding in his eyes,

As we both gazed upward at the star-strewn sky.

We had a shared hope for a wiser Earth,

Where humans can finally wake up and see what life is really worth.
