beforeshocks

Temporary temporal spaces are the best,

created on the page where I weave a creek

through a young forest, broadcast hawks

into a sky that doesn't really exist,

let time travel backwards

becoming younger with each word,

return to before this event occurred,

prior to that injury,

specific humiliations eradicated

into something that hasn't happened,

may not ever happen

if I can just manage

to get it right, breathe the correct air,

choose the best words

and abandon the worst

parts of myself before formation is complete,

bitterness and backbiting evaded,

a segue not taken, no fears galvanized

into granite (trembling earth aside)

if only for a short while

in the magic of my mind.
