World of Lies

A lie gets half way around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on. ~Winston Churchill

We send forth the mercenaries bearing arms of hate,

Hoping to save uncivilized craze, to find that it’s too late.

Our children march to drums of war and bear the enemy fire.

Mothers cry as their children die in the service of thieves and liars.

The leaders voice apologies with words of faith and hope,

To quell the tears and thwart the fears of parents who cannot cope.

The minister prays for the families whose losses are so grim,

But silently cries cursing the lies of a world working against him.

The reporter flies to enemy lines aboard a passenger jet,

Only to find he’s left behind all of this life he’ll get.

T.V. propaganda begins to stop the curse of war,

And people believe what they think they see the fight is truly for.

The tension mounts to Capitol Hill where the Americans are perplexed,

By the torrid lies that have broken ties between them and a nation vexed.

They cannot stop the fighting now without sacrificing more,

And cannot fight with love or might, those who for peace implore.

To negotiations they must go to place upon the table,

A deal they know will cost the flow of finances now unstable.

The deal is made to stop the war and folks are pleased at home.

Families united and hope ignited, no more do our children roam.

Safe in our homes quite snug in our beds we complain so vehemently,

About the leaders, child killer feeders who have let us down recently.

But they have chosen to take a stand in a place where most would not,

And now they must find ways to adjust to mistakes from a previous lot.

They correct mistakes from centuries ago, from the forgotten time that cries:

To freedom we fly! For freedom we die!

In a world that’s built on lies!

Brilliant, and thought provoking. And very true, I fear the same thing isn't just happening in the USA, but in Canada as well.

  • This was so tragic and devastating. I wish we can stop this as easy as wishing from a Genie!

well-written and thought-provoking poem. It is a poem that everyone should read, as it is a reminder of the human cost of war and the importance of working for peace.
