Are you as tired as I am?
Do your feet burn from walking
working
waiting?
Do your joints creak?
Is the breath filling your lungs enough to speak what needs
speaking?
Or do you gasp at night for air that never comes,
Silenced by dark?
Do your brittle bones break under the
Weight of another day in paradise,
Where dogs eat dogs and
Metaphorical bullets get bit so
Literal ones, maybe, won't?
Do you cling to hope so tight that your knuckles turn white and
Ache from never moving,
Never letting go?
Do you hold so tight that even if you wanted to let go,
You couldn't?
Does the flickering light at the end of the tunnel
Trigger long-haul headaches
Retinopathy
Seizures?
Do you do The Work
To reach an end, you
May never see,
Despite?

I am a non-binary, trans-masc writer. I work to dismantle internalized structures of oppression, such as the gender binary, class, and race. My writing is personal but anecdotally points to a larger political picture of systemic injustice.
