Words We Say

A play-on-words poem

If you read and speak all day

you’ll know this to be absolute

some words are there for speakin’

some for art and ill repute

The Speakin’ words aren’t tough

they get you through the day

you’ll never struggle to find

a lovely word to sing and say

You never lack a song or rhyme

a chat with a cat who sat near the door

with a hey diddle diddle and a fiddle

dance a jig with a pig forevermore

Artsy words are harder to rhyme

but they’re super fun to use

they’re words you see in a book

you take your time to peruse

You can hear the wolves ululate

feel the undulating swell of the sea

see the luminous multitude of stars

vocalize how your heart ought to be

There are so many words to know

whether Speakin’ or full of Art

use the first for everyday

and the latter for sounding smart

But words are not intelligent or dumb

a song or a book either way tells a story

for language is there to create and enjoy

so add all words to your repertory
