Glass saints offer fragile benediction

Diffusing the son’s light in varied hues

Base desires hide behind soft diction

Candle bearing children feed a dark muse

-

Black sheep robed in the finest white cotton

Once picked by black hands under white men’s whip

Guilty transgressions some wish forgotten

Hiding sins in outrage and censorship

-

Alter boys send up smoke signals to God

Trauma burning along with the incense

A game of telephone, heavily flawed

Lost innocence forced to seek penitence

-

Did we misunderstand the text, the plan?

We were warned the wolf would lie with the lamb

Sonnet
