Woe is Summer

a sonnet for the rest of us

Cid sweats profusely while co-facilitating a retreat in Bali

The warm and lazy days of summer here,

the brief delight I feel from head to toe

until all cool air dies and disappears,

and I am left to bitch and sigh in woe.

I have not ever been a fan of sun.

My pale and ever-burning skin protests.

I hide indoors and wait til day is done

before I dare to come out, I confess.

I know that many love these days the most.

They revel in the hot sun eating brats

and slather on their pricey Coppertone.

Please do not try to change my summer thoughts.

For I will always choose the cool indoors

to make the most of summerโ€™s sunny stores.
