Without You

So this is how I survive without you... it isn't as hard as I thought.

I am stronger than what you thought of me as

when you left me behind,

to care for two little girls that weren't even mine.

We are wiser than you ever gave us credit for,

when you made plans to leave for another state -

without ever being there to see the day

that we spread our wings and soar.

We are better than you could ever perceive,

after we clung to each other tightly

as if a death occurred that we were forced to grieve.

You see when you walked out of our lives

you took all your memories too,

forcing us to adapt and overcome

how hard life was without you.

A mother was something that you

never seemed to be able to be,

but we loved you anyway

because you were ours... you had me.

You thought of yourself numerous times

as 'Superwoman' with your head held high and strong,

but I guess the nickname that you had chosen

for yourself just didn't below.

You left for a promising job

and a man to take care of you,

as standing firmly on your own two feet

was something that you were never able to do.

You fool him as easily as you had done to us,

a curving smile is in place that you could easily adjust.

You left behind all that you had and all that you ever knew,

for a man that basically thought that you deserved

a better stage cue.

In the process you left your blood - your daughters behind,

to fend for themselves in a world

that could have easily devoured them alive.

Where were you when they cried themselves to sleep,

wishing that they knew the answers

behind all the lies that you keep?

With both hands they grasp life

and each day they begin anew,

such is the life that you chose to lead

when you force your children to continue on with their lives...

without you.

About the Creator

Stephanie Lifton

Hi! You will soon find different varieties here. I am a writer and a poet, though I am still passing some stepping stones with this. I get wrapped up in the poem sometimes and it may turn out long in the end, so I apologize in advance. :3
