Without Truth for Fuel

Dancing through a Devolution

By A. S. LawrencePublished about a year ago • 1 min read

That's a lie.

I heard it.

You don't need lipstick!

You paint your mouth with crimson dishonesty.

I used to ask you...

Ask you about the inconsistencies.

But you just deny it...

Deny the lying.

And it doesn't hurt you that I know you lie.

It just hurts me that my respect means nothing to you.

The only way to stop your lies

Would be for me to punch you in the face.

But I want to give the boy a civilized society.

He deserves that much.

A lying mother is enough burden.

WHY IS LYING CONSIDERED CIVILIZED!?!?

If an engineer lies, bridges fall down.

So as our society tolerates lies,

Our infrastructure crumbles

And we lose the benefits of truth.

And without truth for fuel,

we turn to dirty sources:

Unable to use sunlight, since it reveals our lies, we turn to spiritual coal--

Human misery and the dreams of children.

We reduce ourselves to vampire cavemen, burning the hopes of the next generation, so we can keep our petty fibs.

Your precious deceptions--they mean more to you

Than my love, my respect, my adoration.

But calling you out changes nothing.

So I'll keep it in mind, and write a poem about it later

As you slowly devolve

Into a glass-eyed alligator.
