Without even asking for a poppy
During that first sight, You were so bright So full of light So right.
Your eyes met mine
Through the mirror during the drive.
Flushed, I glanced out the window
Undaunted, you allowed your smile to grow.
When we got to your house,
I asked if you had a spouse.
You said, “never mind”,
And that’s when we intertwined.
I didn’t know then
That just because I always win
Doesn’t mean I should play the game
Because winning you was actually pretty lame.
When I saw you across the pub,
You looked really quite snug,
Tucked into your gray winter’s coat,
The one that really covered up your bloat.
I was drawn by those sparkling blue eyes,
The ones that haunted me every time I tried
To close my own and think of a time
When I did not believe you were so fine.
During that first sight,
You were so bright
So full of light
So right.
I was so uptight.
So full of spite.
Not quite
Alright.
Where would I be without your validation?
Where would I be without your incrimination?
Your condemnation.
Your intimidation.
Your invasion
Of my soul, my mind, my body
As I let you have access
Without even asking for a poppy.
