Withered

For what could have been

A plant that’s not been watered, cannot grow,

Its leaves begin to wither, its stems slow,

It began so full of hope,

Gaining knowledge from the rain, soil, and sun

Dreaming of roots that can run,

Run deep within and live to eternity,

But a plant that’s not watered has no destiny.

A plant that has not been watered, cannot grow

Its purpose? Remains unknown.

The other plants seem to thrive,

They’ve been fed in perfect time.

Their petals are bright, their stems held high,

The perfect plant for the passer-by

A plant that has not been watered, wants to thrive,

But has no will to drive,

For its growth has been compromised.

A plant that’s not been watered, cannot grow,

Its willingness to live remains no more.

It longed and longed only to be forgotten

For its potential was buried and left to be rotten.
